The rice you eat is much different than the rice the early human settlers had, so is every other crops you have now. Gene Modification is not a 'taboo' stream of genetic engineering. Nature does that all the time through mutation and evolution. What is wrong if we do it artificially to produce a crop suitable for a particular climate or topography? Obviously, it has to be thoroughly tested before releasing for public consumption.

And RSS is not the epitome of logic and rationality. Indian scientists has a more trustworthy reputation than them.

Look at Monsanto and how its GMOs have caused such havoc.
And they are resistant to a certain degree only, the pests evolve through the resistance, the pesticides react differently etc. When they "solve" problems genetically new ones usually arrive.
Even if the GMOs don't 'usually' have adverse affects, they are causing damage thru various different ways.
