No Pakistani qualifies for Rio 2016 Olympics

India has a contingent of 121 competitors, its nothing to brag about , but no where as bad as Pakistan.

We are hoping for medals in Wrestling, Archery, Shooting, Boxing, Badminton, Tennis and maybe one in hockey as well.

What are you trying to imply :what:
It is quite decent actually. I also hope Indian contingent will win 12-15 medals as well. Just rub it in when you do so and may be some of our "not so" concerned authorities will also wake up. Do it for me as a neighbor.

. .
I don't know about India.
Maybe India's sports program were not well funded enough?
Because having a giant population is an advantage, but it also takes massive amounts of resources to pick through them.

And yeah, training is definitely much more important then being talented.

I think it's about resources for parents to put them into specialized training, regardless of population. Look at countries that lead in medals, they tend be developed countries, or countries doing somewhat good on per capita income.

Unfortunately in the subcontinent sports is never given importance.

They won't.

You have Vijay Singh, could be a Golf medal.

What i dont understand is,why isnt there any private initiative from individuals(rich or middle class)?
its not just facilites but much also depend on diet, most indians dont eat protein rich food specially meat(curtsy bhudha) as their regular diet... which result in pitfull muscle mass & upper body strength the reason why india produce very few fast bowler in cricket compare to rest of crickting nations...now some fascist indian vegetrians in their defense give example of indian athletes like sushil kumar & few others who are vegis & won gold & world championship in past without realising they never got same vegiterian diet an average indian consume

. .
They failed to win 15 Golds in South Asian Games below Sri Lanka, so this is not a surprise.

However, Pak Hockey team has qualified for Olympics (if i am not wrong)

. .
That is not the case with Pakistanis, they are neither elite, nor do they have zika concern. They just weren't good enough to qualify.

.
Yes, I am well aware of that because of massive corruption, most of talented athletes don't get picked and the ones who are picked because daddy paid money, aren't worth a dime, but I was laughing at this (non-participation of top players after allegations of doping). It turns out unless they are high they also have no talent.

Since you felt compelled to jump in and bring this to our attention, it's obvious that Indian athletes are elite, Indian government is loaded plus over a billion people to choose from just like China which took 38 gold in the last summer olympics, India must have taken at least same if not more, can't remember, could you please enlighten us all and give us the amount of gold medals India took home in the last summer Olympics

. .
ZIKA VIRUS WE WILL SEND NEXT OLYMPICS

Haha. Good One!!

By your argument, India should also be right up there, well reality is that India lags way behind ...so it must be something to do with training and sports and infrastructure in China ..

We do not have a sports culture here in India. Indian parents invest their child's career in more safer areas such as Engineers and Doctors. We need to bring in a culture like China where every parent understand that sports are as safe as any other profession.

As a South Asian feel very shameful -no Pakistani athlete at Rio games. Time to relook at sports policy....

.
With conventional wars near impossible in this globalized world, countries prove their might by no. of medals they win at Olympics.....China knows this better than anyone else & here we are still occupied with the question - Whose Nukes are Better?

.
We unfortunately are not a sporting nation at all , we dont have sport culture , those who play cricket are mostly regarded "awara" in our community ( as they are travelling and mostly outside for tournaments ) . Its no surprise that we have no representation in Olympics and to be honest no body really cares , there will be a ticker in news and people will say " oh no , sad " thats it nothing more .
