Obvuosly you do not understand the issue on Taiwan's independence. Officially, even right in Taipei itself, Taiwan is still a province of an old time China, known as Republic of CHINA, that lost all its holdings on Mainland China.

Independence of Taiwan means, Republic of CHINA is kicked out of Taiwan, there won't be any link to the word "Republic of China" or 中华民国。They would have to eliminate all such wordings in all their official documents like passports and official statements as well as denying Dr Sun Yat-Sen as their founding father. (Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is the founding father of modern China for defeating the Qing dynasty, recognised by all in Greater China).

And "Republic of China" with administrative office in Taipei still claims all of Greater China as well as People's Republic of Mongolia, and the 11 dotted lines in South China Sea, and also Southern Tibet occupied by India. In effect, they are a shadow of an old Chinese regime defeated in Chinese civil war by PLA, clinging to their last ground Taiwan island.
