Samia Rahman and Syed Mahfuzul Haque Marjan

The investigation committee has found evidence of plagiarism or plagiarism in the research of two teachers of Dhaka University (DU). The university's highest policy-making forum, the Syndicate, has set up a tribunal to determine what their punishment will be. The tribunal was constituted on Wednesday. University Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor. Muhammad Samad confirmed this information to Bangla Tribune.
Three years ago, there were allegations of plagiarism against Samia Rahman, an associate professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, and Syed Mahfuzul Haque Marjan, a lecturer in the Department of Criminology. Then the vice-chancellor of the university (education) Professor. An inquiry committee headed by Nasreen Ahmad was formed. The investigation committee has found evidence of theft against the two teachers. But did not mention any punishment.
On Wednesday, the syndicate formed a tribunal to determine what punishment could be given for the allegations of plagiarism. The report given by the tribunal will be passed in the syndicate again.
Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor. Muhammad Samad told the Bengali Tribune, "The investigation committee has submitted a report to the syndicate to the effect that the allegations against the two teachers have been found to be true." The syndicate later ordered the formation of a tribunal to determine the sentence.
'A New Dimension of Colonialism and Pop Culture: A Case Study of the Cultural Imperialism' by Samia Rahman, Teacher of Mass Communication and Journalism and Mahfuzul Haque Marjan, Teacher of Criminology. Copied from pages 6, 7, 8, 8 and 119.
Earlier, it was alleged that Samia Rahman and Marjan had stolen text from an article entitled "The Subject and Power" by French philosopher Michel Foucault. Foucault's article appeared on page 19 of Volume 4 of the 1982 journal Critical Inquiry in the University of Chicago. Samia and Marjan's article, A New Dimension of Colonialism and Pop Culture: A Case Study of the Cultural Imperialism, was published in DU's Social Science Review in December last year.

Non western universities are vastly under rated. Tsinghua university and Peking university should at least be in top 10.
May be they evaluate a University on the basis of original research works involving teachers and Master/PhD students.

When masters degree holder clerk get VC appointment!

Kamrul Hasan Mamun
Our Ministry of Education, by appointing a Registrar at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University as Vice-Chancellor, proved that as long as the universities of Bangladesh remain under the Ministry of Education, our University has no future.
By appointing a registrar in charge of a public university in the capital, our ministry has proved that they cannot actually hold the same thing as a university. How can you? The minimum qualifications for those who become professors in a real university are PhD plus post-doc or experience in supervising many Masters and PhD students (i.e. research experience)! Earlier, I also said that the vice chancellors of many public universities in Bangladesh do not have the wisdom and experience to hold on to what "university" is. Because if those who hire them have no idea how to find the right people?
And in this case, the master's clerk is the responsibility of the vice chancellor? As far as I know there is a pro-vice chancellor and there is a treasurer. Both are professors and both have PhDs. If he had to give the responsibility, he could have given it to one of these two. Or to the dean of a faculty. That was normal. What did the ministry do? A relative of theirs gave the responsibility of vice-chancellor to a kind of bureaucrat and at the same time showed extreme ignorance. There is no forgiveness for this.
My point is what is the responsibility of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education? But they also cannot avoid liability for this disability. That is why I say this country is actually going to the abyss. The incompetent are leading everywhere and the competent are being subjected to extreme neglect.
I have seen in my short life that I have just returned to the country after completing my PhD. Maybe after taking classes for a year, he was made vice-chancellor or vice-chancellor of a public university. Why? Because the figure has matched with the ruling party. There is no point in looking at whether the country or the students will benefit.
At the university level, a teacher doing a PhD will actually turn his acquired knowledge into wisdom by distributing it among the students. Will be experienced over time. But Erato didn't get that time. Coming to the end of PhD from abroad is a huge responsibility. Seto did not have time to become a teacher or he was not given that time. Universities are being opened at wholesale rates in the same country. And at the same time in those universities it was as if VC provision of people was being made.
For some time now, I have been seeing a news through various news outlets that the UGC will investigate various allegations of corruption and nepotism against the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University. Our UGC has also called them for this purpose. But none of them came to the hearing through the investigation. Allegations of corruption and nepotism against the vice-chancellor of a reputed university can be considered. Even then, they are proud of their dreams. Shame on you? How do they show their face in front of students and colleagues?
In fact, our ministry now appoints only those who have thick skin as VC or Provisi. Those who have nothing to be ashamed of. Because they are the most proven obedient people. Any interest can be achieved with them. They are always on one leg to be obedient to the government or the ministry. This is the situation of Bangladesh University. [From Facebook]

All universities in non-English speaking countries are seriously underestimated, including Germany, France, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, etc.

how many south asians universities are there?

In top 1000?

9 from Pakistan
32 from India
1 from Nepal
2 from Sri Lanka
0 From Bangladesh
0 From Buhtan
0 From Mayanmar

Total 42 universities.

Best Rank : 301-350 IISc India.

I don't know about other countries but in India IIT-Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Bombay, Roorkee, AIIMS Delhi did not figure into these ranking AT ALL, strangely their newer counterparts like IIT-Patna or Indore did. This means, either these old institutes were disqualified for some reasons or more likely, they chose not to participate in the ranking. Actually I see lots of "Indian Institute" universities missing while their lower ranked Indian peers in the ranking. Most likely, a number of universities from India did not participate in the rankings or rankings are yet not complete.

No Bangladeshi university could even make to the list of 1000 in the world university rankings

No higher education institution in Bangladesh has been included in the list of 1000 universities of the world in the ranking of Times Higher Education, a UK-based research journal.

In this ranking of more than 1500 universities from 93 countries of the world, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Dhaka University are in the next list of 1000 from Bangladesh. There is no other university in the country in the top 1500. Last Wednesday, the magazine published 'The World University Rankings 2021' on their website. Oxford University is ranked at the top of more than 1,500 universities in terms of quality of education, international outlook, research and assessment of knowledge transfer.
In 2016, the position of Dhaka University in this ranking was between 701 to 800. In 2016, it went back to 1000. Then in 2019 and 2020, no university in Bangladesh could enter the list.

Oxford University in the United Kingdom, which has been at number one for the last 4 years, is still at the top of the list. The top five are Stamford University in the United States, Harvard University, the California Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The United States universities are at the top of this list of Time Higher Education. Six of the top 10 universities and the other two are from the UK.

This ranking has been done in five indices in total. These are Teaching, Research, Site, Industry Income and International Outlook. Of these, Dhaka University is in the worst position in the research index. Out of the total 100 points in the study, Dhaka University got only 7.6.
In this context, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. "I don't think it's possible to change global parameters overnight," Akhtaruzzaman said. However, we have already taken several steps to take the research sector forward.

As far as education is concerned, I accept Bangladeshis to be better than Pakistanis. If not today, tommorow they will be in list.
