ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, taking swift action against misuse of Pakistani CNICs, on Wednesday gave 48-hour deadline to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for preparing a road-map to initiate re-verification of CNICs of over 180 million population.

The minister issued the re-verification roadmap order after questions were raised over a Pakistani passport and CNIC found from the drone hit car wreckage site in Balochistan, which were claimed to held by the deceased Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhter Mansour.

Nisar was chairing a meeting at NADRA Headquarters, which was also attended by NADRA chairman, DG Passport and Immigration and officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

“NADRA has 48 hours to submit a work plan with a set deadline for initiation of national plan for re-verification of CNICs across the country,” directed the minister.

“This measure would help us to ensure that in future no alien will be able to use Pakistani CNIC and passport, besides removal of those aliens currently holding Pakistani CNIC,” the interior minister was quoted as saying.

“Being a responsible state we will ensure that usage of CNIC by any alien is completely eliminated after this exercise,” he remarked.

Nisar further directed to ensure that “general public remains at ease and re-verification of CNICs must be done in a most cordial and friendly way”.

“National security agencies will also assist NADRA in future for ensuring blocking of CNICs and their verification.”

The interior minister said NADRA officers and its senior hierarchy must live up to emoluments and perks provided to them, since “this money was coming from the taxes of public”.

“Inefficient and under-performing directors will be removed from service,” he ordered.

He directed the NADRA chairman to take immediate steps to purge the authority of corrupt elements on a fast track basis and said there should be zero tolerance for corruption at all levels.

I went "EXECUTIVE BRANCH" of Rawalpindi for renewal of my ID card, I've "WASTAGE" my 2:30 mins just for renew aur ALLAH kay fazlo karam say that was "Executive Branch" jahan bakool inkay FORAN KAAM HOJATA HEY... agar ye 2 (h): 30 (m) foran hain tu mera khyaal hey doosri branch may tu 5 + gantay tu aam c baat hogi ? aur ye farma rahay hain kay again Re-Verify 180 M population ID cards ? amazing... KHOTAY RULE kar rahay hain is mulk ko Alhamdullilah Alhamdullilah....

over 180 Million NIDcards for a population of 200 million. is not it funny that out 200 millions pakistanis 180 millions are adults?

I think it is not possible to trace every individual.

Nadra although being a very good organisation still manages to come with loopholes.

I once went to Pakistani embassy in UK to apply for Pakistani passport but they made it look like impossible for me to get one despite having NICOP (equivalent of CNIC) and advised me to apply my passport while on my visit to Pakistan in order to speed up the process.

So when my father was suffering from Cancer I went to my local passport office in Pakistan. They initially told me its very hard to get the passport as I only have NICOP (and relevant documents) and my application will be sent to FIA and interior ministry for verification and is quite a lengthy procedure and my brother told the agent that I may have to travel to China and I want to get the visa stamped on my Pakistani passport for so and so reason otherwise I could have got the Chinese visa on my UK passport and avoided the whole procedure. (I may have to travel back to UK to obtain Chinese visa).

So he said, I understand your problem so how about give me 10,000 rupees and get your passport in 2 days... and we inquired how it is possible? and he said since you have an emergency like situation if you are willing to pay 10,000 i will just give part of it to another officer and then he will take your photo, then I will phone Islamabad in your presence so that they can print your passport immediately and post it today and hopefully you will get it tomorrow (if late then day after tomorrow as it was around 3pm already) and to my surprise we literally got the passport in 24-30 hours.

It was meant to be few months of procedure and ended up within 2 days. The bottom line is, I was eligible to get the passport in the first place so all they had to do is, verify and issue the passport.

Once that matter was done, the agent voluntarily offered us a favour saying since your situation is criticial and many people hire other non-relatives to donate organs for transplant so if in case you too need my assistance I would be able to link anybody with your family and show as your legal relative as per NADRA records so that you don't have to take a risk by yourself and the cost he told was horribly low (but he kind of seemed sentimental in the first place). We were literally stunned to hear that such things happens so easily that anybody can be registered in NADRA and we thought it was such a professional body.

PS: I was not in favour of bribe but the emergency like situation forced my brother to go for it otherwise even if they had accepted our application it would have taken over a month but that was not the case in the first place and we had planned to travel within weeks.

What the heck, these new CNIC cards were supposed to eliminate fake cards. why keep doing the re-verification every few years and spend billions on it, why not hang a few culprits who are caught making/assisting/attesting face card applications.

2:30 min is not much by any standard...even in developed countries you will spend more time than this.

This is a fruitless expensive wasteful exercise. He is the one who has been running NADRA for the past few years. The Taliban and all other proxies won't have any problems as their CNIC's and passport's are all arranged by the deep state. The only people to suffer will be the poor and the unconnected. They will be tortured and fleeced to hide the embarrassment of the deep state for its follies.

Ordinarily I would smile at this stupidity, but I can't, as I know the people to suffer will be the weak and the innocent

Great move Pakistani citizenship is not for sale. Punish the culprits in NADRA.
