Nine killed, two injured in Gwadar firing

At least nine people were killed and two others injured as unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at labourers working in Gwadar, Balochistan.


Initial reports reveal those killed were labourers working on a construction site. The deceased and injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

“Ten labourers working on Peshukan Ganz road came under attack, as a result of which eight of them were killed, while two others sustained injuries. The victims belong to Noushero Feroz, Sindh,” said Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Naeem Bazai.

The official added that another labourer working on a boundary wall nearby was also shot dead, raising the death toll to nine. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far.

Taking notice of the incident, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives.

At least 10 labourers were killed in Balochistan's Gwadar district on Saturday as unidentified assailants opened fire at the construction site where they were working, Levies sources said.

Unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on the labourers working at a road in Gwadar's Pishgan area, killing eight labourers on the spot, Levies sources confirmed.

Two of the injured labourers died while they were being rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, they added.

The assailants fled the scene after the attack.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also confirmed the death toll while speaking to DawnNews. Condemning the incident, he said, "We will not bow down before terrorists."

The slain labourers belonged to Sindh's Naushahro Feroze district and will be handed over to their family members later in the day.

Frontier Corps, police and Levies personnel have reached the spot and an investigation is underway.

The incident occurs as China is developing the warm water Gwadar port, which is a prominent feature of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) plan.

The CPEC project — with an investment of $46 billion and the Gwadar port as its lynchpin — is billed to be a 'game-changer' and manifestation of strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.

The government has deployed a Maritime Security Force (MSF) and Special Security Division (SSD) to protect projects under CPEC, including Gwadar and other coastal areas.

The forces have been deployed to ensure safety of locals and foreigners working on CPEC projects.

Such incidents are almost a daily routine in the Red Corridor, where Naxals hit laborers, officials so often that it's not even worth posting now, anyways the enemy will not miss an opportunity to hit soft targets but we would never descend to his pathetic level and only hit him where it hurts while remain focused on our aims and goals.

Nawaz Sharif is the HEAD and SUPREME AUTHORITY over the agencies and armed forces..you should question him whats happening not Naveed Mukhtar or Bajwa.

Who ordered opening of the afghan border back in march upon an afghan govt. cry when the the border management required strict closure and the attacks and loss of lives we had soon after that order puts onus on the premiere Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He is also churning diarrhea to give indian exports to afg a safe passe through pak.. thanks god some sense prevailed upon interruption of the honorable NSA Nasir Janjua but imagine had Nasir Janjua 'REJECTED' the proposal ..what would have happened??ohe dear myy. Anti Pakistan states have gone full on against Pakistan. We cannot win against them until we bring the war in their own backyard. This all happening while OBOR summit is ongoing in China with full Pakistan participation. One also has to remember the threat American intelligence cheif made against CPEC and how mercenaries will target it. The nexus between America and India is crystal clear.

One thing is disappointing in all this however. China is not very vocal in support of Pakistan or actively subotaging the enemies of CPEC, while our citizens are suffering because of CPEC. Maybe it's due to the fact that Nawaz Shareef himself is in the pocket of those who are against CPEC.
