India is developing a new air to air version of its brahmos missile to target Pakistani Airborne early warning systems.

After the events of last year February 26/27 India who was dilutional about its military superiority got an eye opener from Pakistani Air force who first successfully stopped India in its offensive on Pakistani soil but also retaliated in return to make India feel more miserable.

They key factor in this 2 day tea party in which India faced, was the threat of highly integrated Pakistani AWAC network which timely recognized the threat and also coordinated in Pakistan's response over Indian soil.

India Air chief has admitted on past many occasions about their lack of good fighter jets as their reason of defeat to Pakistan but to put in prospective Pakistan was not the aggressor here and Indian misadventures was of political motive not military motive.

Any how India has realized its low capability against Pakistan in air warfare and has decided to gain an advantage to throw the balance of power in subcontinent in indias favor. This can result in a weapons race in this already tense region. India was already acquiring Rafael jets from France to fulfill its ambitions of threatening its small neighbours and make it policies dominate the region but some reports are suggesting now that India is working on an air to air version of brahmos along Russia to target Pakistani AWACs which poses a threat to any Indian aggression towards its small neighbor. Pakistan with its lower military budget has successfully kept the balance of power in subcontinent but Indian ambitions to become a threat are growing.

The new missile which India is working on is a air to air version of Brahmos with a range of 350 to 450 km expected. It is thought to be a kinetic kill vehicle with speeds exceeding previous version. The missile is thought to be deployed SU-30 MKI of Indian air force. The missile is also considered less maneuverable and can only target slow moving AWACs. India is expected to sign an agreement on this with Russia some where between April and May.

It is really a funny and stupid idea to have an extremely heavy and non-stealh A2A CM with Supersonic throughout journey config to down an AWACS.

Don't have any link for now. Will give it in sometime.

@MastanKhan Now i do think that 27Feb was a cleverly planned “Look Fool” attempt by India to test us. They have learnt and are trying to strike us where we are strong at and the backbone.

We should have major change of plans. Block 3 should be the last block and should be stretched to a fleet of 100+, focus should be diverted from AZM to J-20 or Chinese almost ready J-31/35. Only then will we be able to train ourselves in time to be ready for all this pathetic procurements by india.

AZM can wait til 2035-2040, it would be a wise move as well as by 2040, world would be quite settled on a new gen fighter, 6th gen would become a common news from Major Airforces so we can build solution to actually compete the real 6th gen instead of going 5+ on current AZM

Don't have source at the moment consider it fiction. Will give source when I will find one.

BrahMos NG

The new variant of the missile - BrahMos NG (next generation) - is an interesting weapon. The feasibility studies and engineering analysis are over. We have found that it can be perfectly integrated into LCA, LCA MK-II & AMCA. We want IAF to induct these platforms in large numbers and until then we shall wait.

BrahMos-NG will be ready in the next four years. We are holding on to our investments for now and we will be ready with the new weapon suite when IAF demands it.

(With considerable reduction in weight, in future more number of BrahMos-NGs can be carried by Sukhois, Tejas, AMCA and other platforms.)

Other variants

There are several improvements coming into the BrahMos. It is a great missile and every three, six, nine months we are coming out with new additions. We keep evolving so as to give different strategies to our armed forces.

We are thinking to develop the air-to-air version with anti-AWACS capability. The range can be in excess of 400-500 km and the first test will be sometime in the near future.

We are also planning for a hypersonic missile, which is being named after Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. The moment you cross 5 Mach speed, it will be a hypersonic missile. DRDO has undertaken a major programme to develop hypersonic technologies, so that a missile in excess of 10-12 Mach speed can be developed.

Meanwhile, we are looking at upgrading the current engine from 3 to 5 Mach. We want to develop a supersonic-hypersonic engine. We want to do the thermal management with some kind of coatings on different components so that they can withstand high temperature. The idea is to provide our armed forces a credible deterrent with hypersonic capabilities.

BrahMos Model

At BrahMos, we follow a simple model. We have decided not to do any metal cutting at our workshop. We do only the integration. For every component\products we develop two vendors so as to get sub-systems at competitive prices.

The era of missiles will be there for another 15-20 years. Beyond that, there will be high-power microwave, high-power lasers and high-energy projectiles. Let’s wait for another four years and see how we are gearing up to take on the new requirements.

BrahMos has an excellent DNA and this need to be promoted. When we develop a pure hypersonic engine, we will be able to do the integration of hypersonic missile also.

I have ensured that I should leave a legacy that’s inspiring and one that will hold BrahMos Aerospace in good financial health. We have our order book intact till 2040.

Thank you was looking for this.

Quality of the article is piss poor
Forget quality focus on content this is a joint weapons and not just a threat for Pakistan but Nato as well Russia can use it to target Nato early warnings as well.

Will take atleast 5 years to be on shelf. SFDR missiles are also on work. But dont expect it to be ready before 2027.

Bhramos is a land attack and anti ship CM, so, as far as i know there is no Bhramos series CM which is air to air . they all are land attack and anti ship role . looks like a goofed up article mods can lock it or delete

Air to air version is only on paper no further development started
