What's new

New Russian Altius-M long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle spotted at the airfield in Kazan

I dont feel any anger any more, since I ve realized which way russian train is going long a go

Russia choose to scrap many soviet technologies, facilities, highly skilled work force. Drones are just only one field where is lagging behind badly. Just look, at russian hellicopter missiles. There are no fire and forget missiles, NLOS missiles, targeting pods, advanced termovision ...

Your thesis, that Russia consciously choose some priorities is false. Almost only VPK subjects that survived through 90s were those, who maintained production thank to orders from China, India, Vietnam etc. There are some exceptions, were some plants and institutes push through the era due to the enthusiasm of menagment and workers. But, vast portion of soviet VPK along with precious skilled workforce "канул в лету"
Yes, yes, Russia is doomed.
We hear it for about last thousand years.

They didn`t "choose" to scrap anything, they had no choice, they didn`t had the money to maintain such a huge industry for in reality such a massively oversized army Soviet was. It was simply unsustainable economics.

What are you reffering to : Orion, Inokhodec, Altius ... ?

Maybe its in trials, but wider public havent got a chance to see it. Even Iran and Turkey are better in UAV field than Russia. Its kinda sad ....

So what does that suposed to mean? That it doesn't exist ? Altius-M when it enters service will vastly outclass anything Iran or Turkey have and will put us right up with the top 5 drone makers, and our design houses are working on even bigger drones including the 20 ton X-47B class drone which Sukhoi working on.:)

Thats sweet

But, I want to see some goodies in my lifetime. By that, I am referring to the achievements not belonging to USA and theirs satanic circle

Thanks to China and their steady progress I can contemplate about the world in an era following USA domination and terror. Chinese drones are the present, and Russian are uncertain future. Im deeply disappointed by the russian level in unmanned and other crucial tech

Altius and russian UCAV will maybe be induced in five or more years. When I am dead and gone, that is not going to mean anything

p.s Does Russia has the acces to the german aero diesels now with sanctions and everything ?

Where are the russian diesels and small turboprops ? How can Russia serially build advances drones without those ?

Outclass what !?

With that noisy twin turboprops ? :)

How do you know we are not working on a big *** drone!?

Well unless you got a 4500 kg drone with 100 feet wingspan and with a 20,000 meter altitude celling, I am all ears :)

So here we go!!!

Russia is importing aero diesels from Germany and turbopropeler is no where in sight, still plans are great

Deeds and intentions go completely divergent, thats so russian

Looks like it can climb high. It seems it can be used to detect and locate high power radar positions(thaad, abms) from pretty far.

Also Russia is ahead in ecm type of stuff like khibney and similar systems which can be installed and practiced in this large drone.

Russia can cooperate with China and Iran in uav field sharing some of its ecm tech that can be installed on drones and in return getting drone tech that others are specialised at.

20,000 metres is 65,000 ft, even the RQ-4 Global Hawk doesn't reach that altitude. Certainly the Altius wouldn't reach that altitude.

That doesn't mean Altius can't, I wasn't braging when I said this drone will put us there with Isreal, China, US when it comes drone tech.

Actually, it does mean Altius can't.

The highest altitude ever recorded by a piston engined propeller aircraft is held by the Boeing Condor at approx. 67,000 ft.

For the Altius-M to be able to reach those altitudes is ludicrous since it has a shorter wingspan and higher weight because of operational requirements like communications and surveillance equipment. In any case, this sort of altitude is overkill anyway. Most propeller driven UAVs don't have a ceiling above 30,000 ft, and don't fly at that altitude regularly anyway, chiefly because the sensors are not powerful enough to be able to accurately conduct their mission from that altitude. Even the Altius cannot carry the very heavy equipment that is required if you plan to fly at that altitude.
