New LKF601E Air Cooling Airborne AESA radar for all JF-17 Block I and II

The following AVIC promotional video says that the trial tests and evaluation were done by "foreign air force". Obviously only PAF has such access.

Please notice in the video, there is not only CG but also clips captured with real people showing the radar fitting on a JF-17.

One interesting difference between LKF601E and KLJ-7A is that the number of TR modules. LKF601E has 864 TR modules while KLJ-7A claims to have slightly more than one thousand. So there should be some spec difference which was not published on the air show. I think LKF601E could be chosen to upgrade JF-17 Block I and II while KLJ-7A would be chosen for Block III.

Yeah that seems to be plausible explanation and I hope PAF takes this route so even block-Is get upgraded with AESA radars i.e. LK601E due to their smaller size while block-III can accommodate the bigger KLJ7-A.

Whats advantage with side tracking? this feature not available in LKF601E Air Cooling Airborne AESA radar?

To increase angles of searching/tracking/engaging the targets and also for ECM purpose and this is on fixed KLJ-7A not LKF601E, there were 2 version of KLJ-7A at Zuhai air show first one was fixed with 2 side small AESA, 2nd) swash plate (mechanical moving) KLJ-7A AESA @MystryMan

Yes that is true and it is exactly why I said that maybe PAF should install the LKF601E on the upcoming JFT Block IIIs along with older Block Is and IIs which would save them alot of time and money on design modifications to cater for the KLJ-7A. God why is this so difficult for you to understand

KLJ-7A is for JF-17 block-3, and LKF601E is for existing block-1/2 upgrades because its requires not nose modifications (air cooled) Whereas KLJ-7A is for BLK-3 because its requires nose modifications (liquid cooled) @Frozr

But as you can see up here^ the KLJ-7A has side tracking as well which is probably why PAF are going with it on the Block-III and thus making design modifications as seen in the JF-17B

there were 2 version of KLJ-7A at Zuhai airshow

1) Fixed AESA with 2 small AESA to cover different angles (high offbore sight )
2)swash plate (mechanical moving) AESA to cover extreme angle (high offbore sight)

Air Cooled AESA makes perfect Sense. If you look at the chart below, it lists outside air temperatures at corresponding altitudes. With such low air temperatures, I am surprised why 'Liquid Cooled' technology is still used.

I believe that a side mounted radar is a weapon in itself---. For helmet mounted cuing system---you don't need a side mounted radar---. Your helmet sights locks the target and tells the missile where to go.

With a side mounted radar---the radar will make the lock--and when you launch your off bore sight missile---it will go for the locked target---. Please correct me if I am wrong---.

The air-cooled LKF601E AESA has 864 T/R modules.

Bigger than the one on Rafael. Interestingly JF-17 also has a bigger nose.

this is just a recent development. there will be more variants and new radars in a few years to come so upgrades are possible down the line with radars on par with F-35 Lighting II.

Yes that is what I have also concluded. Interestingly this Air Cooled RADAR is bigger than one on Rafale and it will have jamming capability higher than many western fighters.
