Besides what has it to offer to India? Can it be used for something more than short ranged rockets? Otherwise it would be only useful in protecting the forward units.

Iron dome and Akash are incomparable. Both are meant for different objectives. And we have nothing in development similar to Iron dome.
That said, 'does it serves any purpose for India', that should be the question. The 'David's sling' seems more useful.

Also, the article seems to be misleading. Trishul is a failure. But what makes the author claim that Akash has not met the requirement.

He is right, Akash can't 'alone' meet out requirements. Akash is just a system in our multi layer defence system. We need more systems for other layers.

for Point defence we are gettng Spyder system & also negotiating with French for Maitry.
medium range system is our own Akash.
for long range we have in JV with Iseral for Barak 2 & also have S400 from Russia.

What about the defense for kargil like situation or in future in any war cheap defense missile will play a vital role for forward moving troops as you can't afford to fire Aakash missile(each missile cost more then half a milloin $, excluding the other systems cost) for each Rocket or 155mm artillery shells. What we need is a comparable system to iron Dome(Which is in essentially only for the artillery shells and rockets and CHEAP like hell). Currently Each iron dome missile cost around 40k$, but once India develops the technology and mass produce or develops something innovative which reduces the cost greatly from the current level) that will be a game changer.. Something like 76 mm guided artillery shells which can intercept the simple enemy rockets and any other simple projectile. Imagine if we bring the cost down to 10k$, that would mean you can have over a Million such missiles for 10B$ budget. wouldn't that be fun??

I think for a bigger army, it is more necessary as even if you don't have adequate missile protection, enemy can have only limited number of sophisticated missiles, which will be used for(mostly) key installations. But if your land army spread throughout hundreds of kilometers have such basic level protection in numbers, they can assault and wipe the enemy once their batteries fires, all you need to do is intercept and bomb the hell out of area from where the shells are coming using the same radars. I mean bigger army can take the damage or loss in a few areas where enemy concentrate it firepower but in return they can do massive assault from hundreds for places.

Different classes. We have nothing similar in development as dome. Consider it radar guided manpads, with ability to intercept missiles/ac's upto 10 km. A cross between cheap manpads and SAM. Would be good for forward troops.

We don't need the Iron Dome IMO. It is used to intercept hostile crude rockets from Hamas and other militant groups who don't have sophisticated arms.

Since when did we start getting rockets from the other side of the border.

Iron Dome is a good tech but just because it is good doesn't mean it suits our needs.

Besides, it's too effing expensive for something we are not going to face.
