After the completion of the northern portion of the M-8 by June, shipping containers would not come to Karachi from Gwadar but would directly go to northern parts of the country via Uttal, Khuzdar and Sukkur, he added. “Construction of this route will save 400-kilometre distance as currently shipping containers have to go from Gwadar via Uttal, Karachi, Hyderabad and then to Sukkur.”

I certainly hope not. Gwadar is being developed by our chinese friends. When free trade zones will be established there, a lot of foreigners will set up factories and businesses in Gwadar. The local authorities will have to take the safety of foreign citizens very seriously. Any unfortunate incident will be seen in very negative light and bring bad name to Gwader. I would rather see it as Gwader 1.0 with all the safety mechanisms installed instead of Karachi 2.0 with its negative events.

Unfortuantely same was case with Karachi.
There were scores of foreigners in Karachi ranging from Europeans to Africans to Arabs to Japanese to Americans but see what happened.
But Insha Allah we will protect Gwadar from those vying and jealous neighbors who can't stand to see us progress!

Gwadar was bought from Oman in 1950s by a civilian government. After a gap of 50 or more years now again its a stable civilian government which will develop it into a mega economic city

Any residential plots are available there, im thinking to buy one if any such options are there, the area is very nice plus its very near to UAE.

I have looked into this however land mafia operate freely here and many have lost money to bogus property dealers.

Unfortunately Pakistani land is in the hands of mafia and they are doing all the buying. Would be very foolish for us to send thousands down the black hole.

I don't think ethnic or sectarian violence will be able to prevail in Gwadar.
The city's majority population will be Baloch, Chinese and after that possibly Urdu speakers.
It should have good educational facilities though.
The key to prevent extremism is to have an educated populace.

Well, if there are Chinese who decide to permanently live in Pakistan, then no problem for them to become integrated into the Pakistani society by both religion and language.

I've seen Chinese in Karachi and Islamabad who are fluent in Urdu.
According to figures I read on Dawn (Pakistani newspaper), by 2020 there will be around 20,000 Chinese in Pakistan.
Right now there are around 12,000 I think.
Let's hope Gwadar becomes another success story in Pak-China relationship.

If this happens, then at least I can say 100% surety that PMLN won't rot away like PPP or MQM.
It still has a chance and if this happens then Gwadar Port alone will be able to carry and take up Pakistan's economy by itself just like Karachi used to in the 60s.

awesome news.. i could never understand why this wasnt done before constructing the makran coastal highway.
