New 4 Little Dragons in Asia

Vietnam is still an agricultural country, don't use "Manufacturing, value added" Index, an industry index, to evaluate the development level. Vietnam is on top of the world about very many agricultural sectors.
We can read about Agriculture, value added (% of GDP) in 2013, Vietnam go over double china, over Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippine.

PISA shows indonesia ranks at the bottom. one or two highflyers does not change any in the great picture.

.

I dont care about PISA as Indonesia has 256 millions people, our genius are so many. Our ability to be the only true democratic country in all ASEAN has shown our people cleverness, both in intellectual and emotional.

Yeah, why bother ourselves with such thing when our youth are still winning gold medals at olympic science, when our brains are hired by world's big to do R&D. We now make our own ships, planes, rockets, satellites, and we can even make nuclear weapon if we want to.

I agree with you.

Why Shanghai PISA index, the bussines center of China is presented for all China ?

if Minangkabau people's PISA index,of people who do business in Jakarta is presented for all Indonesia, PISA index of Indonesia is belong best country in Asia.

Nothing is going to happen here in the PH unless economic policies and restrictions are changed.

I have checked the link on World Bank and further processed the data as below:

Manufacturing, Value Added (Current US$)
View attachment 208543

View attachment 208544

Key Findings:
  • Indonesia is indeed a huge Tiger (if we group the five as "Tigers"), with manufacturing value added exceeding $ 205 billion in 2013, ranking world #13 (India ranked #11 with $223 Bln, Mexico #12 with $215 Bln), that's massive! Despite already being a giant, the growth between 2005~2013 is still as fast as 162.6%, very impressive.
  • Thailand and Malaysia have smaller population and relatively developed economies, while being manufacturing powerhouses, growth would remain steady however slower than their peer tigers.
  • Despite having a low base to start with, the fastest growth belongs to Vietnam which has grown 176.4% between 2005~2013, the future is very optimistic.
  • Philippines have relatively small manufacturing sector, though growth potential is fairly optimistic.

and the funny thing, our leader here still regarding Indonesia is lacking in Industrial output and continue to complaint if current industrial growth is severely lacking to fullfil the needs of average Indonesian and then came the needs to import. In recent years, Indoesia recorded massive deficite in balances of international trade due to high imports of Machine industries, technical expertise in infrastructure development, and raw material (especially oil and iron ore) to sustain more higher growth of industrial output for the next decades.

According to China's national college entrance examination data, there is no big difference in average score among most provinces. The best one is Hubei province, not Shanghai.

i' m from Hubei!
If we have a chance in PISA, we are sure better than Shanghainess
Shanghai's exam is one of the easiest in China.

How Indonesia compares to BRICS in manufacturing?

By measuring manufacturing value added, not only it is already an industrial giant within ASEAN, being #13 in the world, Indonesia is about the same size as BRI nations, way bigger than South Africa. By 2013, Indonesia's size is roughly 77% of Russia, 82% of Brazil and more than 92% of India.

Moreover, Indonesia grows a lot faster than the other three. During 2005~2013, Indonesia's growth is 162.6%, almost doubles that of Brazil or India.

According to the following trend, Indonesia will overtake India by 2015/2016, and Brazil by 2017/18. Let wish Indonesia continue to keep up the good work!

@Shotgunner51

Thanks Friend,

We also have banned raw mineral export since last year. This is likely to speed up our industrialization process, particularly after year of 2018, since this is the time where many of the new mineral processing plants ( smelters) are planned to be ready for production. Huge PT Pertamina (state owned) oil refinery optimization will also be likely to be ready at that time that will also help to grow our chemical industry.

Superiority Complex is just a suppressed inferiority complex 8-)

Very Clear symptom :D

It just a public lip service.....

If any of our leader serious about industrial output, they could easily help our private sector with just a little bit of tweak in law enforcement. It's ironic how Jokowi and previous government always focus on internal tax enforcement while neglecting customs and smuggling.

Basically, with their inattention to smuggling, our Government encourages the private sector to import goods from outside (easier and cheaper to bribe the customs officer, just needs one time small payment every time the good is arriving) than to build factory and produce it locally (become target from tax collector, unions, local gang, corrupt official, etc).

Maybe in Brics, "I" could stand for more countries.
