I wonder how these comments will effect Sarkozy's political future.

I don't about France, but Jewish political lobbying is awfully strong in the US, they fund everything from presidential elections, down to huge contributions in congressional and even senate elections. I remember Clinton going on about his love for Israel, about how if Israel got attacked he'd get in a trench and die - for Israel.

Nixon's private Jew-bashing comments proved to be really costly, Obama's already pretty flimsy and weak, his agreeing with Sarkozy might prove costly for him too.

France care a lot about this project to unify the countries around mediterranean sea because history shows how all these countries have shared culture, economical ties and it would be a great link europe-africa too

As well France always had an important tie with north african arab countries (or berbere) and some other arab countries. it is policy of here. even if Sarkozy is clearly more pro Israel than pro Palestine. He doesn't care about Palestine but keep good relations with arab countries.

The arab spring surprised French. So after the big mistake of Tunisia which showed links between the politics in France and the dictator in Tunisia, they wanted to give a better picture.
Libya was the step to help people to get off the dictator who wanted to massacre his population in Benghazi.
