The roads r not constructed for export of your products, they r building it for their export and your import..
Do u think they will allow your products to sell in China, apart from agricultural product u have no chance to with stand against their economy.. Even our eco i struggling in trade with them..

To what volume of shipments will they use it?

Considering the fact that most of Eastern China is a barren wasteland with minimal population density. How much would it cost them to take the shipments to Western China? If these shipments are meant for Eastern China, then, anyways there's little volume to consider because Eastern China as it is is devoid of human being. It's almost empty. No people. No industries. lol

...and then there's the Siachen factor which casts a permanent shadow on the route.

I think Pakistan is the worst negotiator ever in international diplomacy.. Either it caves in like a putty (Musharraf after 9/11) or gets stuck on no win positions which results in a lose lose (after Salala ).... Never seen Pakistan's terms being met ever..

if US had limited its operational objective in this area to killing osama and kicking out the arabs from afghan, then indeed it has won. but then, if anglo-americans made a habit of not being too grabby and too greedy and not see afghanistan itself as a strategic prize with which to blackmail russia and china and most importantly pakistan, then they would have gotten more friends in the region and not so vehemently hated, would they?

They should have done shock and awe tactics. three months devastate and leave. But their response was disproportionate. Their real aim was strategic. They want their corporations to be involved with pipelines. TAPI was around before 9/11 attacks. At one time they were intending to do the deal with the Taliban

We in the Asian subcontinent are cursed with corrupt leaders. So it may seem like that. But remembber when it comes to supreme national interest eg getting nukes all were on the same page

Pakistan will never allow this to happen.

Pakistan will allow it because your economy want more revenues. Anyway if pipelines goes as usual and Pakistani tried to use it as bargaining chip in future and then must not forget the three rivers in the North.

The point is that a negotiation works only on a win-win.. If you do not provide a win (or an illusion of a win) to the opponent, it results in a lose - lose.. Thats precisely whats happening between USA and Pak at this time.. Considering afg is an adventure for USA and a neighborhood for Pakistan, guess who will get the bigger share of that Lose-Lose..

indeed, the anglo-americans were too smart for their own good. they should have done one first gulf-war style - come in, kill all the arab terrorists in afghanistan, and then punish taliban just enough to cow them but not to remove themselves from power, and then exert enough diplomatic pressure on china, russia and pakistan to help rebuild afghanistan (which would be easier), and afghanistan's neighbors would swallow their pride and do as anglo-americans bid. after all, a quick, punitive war that showcases american aerial power would have intimidated chinese and russians and pakistanis as well as the afghans themselves. but they foolishly committed themselves to a broader ground operation (no doubt expecting greater reward and greater concession from the three neighbors) and ended up losing the moral ground and - far more relevantly to our discussion - the entire strategic advantage they could have enjoyed now.

i still remember the first gulf war: such splendor, such glory, such efficiency, all amplified by a parallel anglo-jewish media blitz that really spooked russians and chinese who at the time were at their weakest point militarily. and then the neo-cons completely ruined this psychological advantage over their most important strategic rivals by fighting the second gulf war and the afghan war, revealing themselves once and for all utterly inept in a real intervention into continental eurasia. in the next decade, the psychological advantage would indeed be russians' and chinese' and every eurasian power who wanted to have a piece with americans. we chinese have a term for this: qian's ***...

Please don't club India with you. Not on this count at least. A country that has cordial relations with both Iran and Israel; Saudi Arab and Iran; US and Iran; Russia and US deserves far better than being clubbed with Pakistan. Pakistanis don't know how to conduct foreign policy. You know why? Because most of the time your foreign policy is made by cocky Generals and ours by scheming politicians. Generals' job is to make war plans, not foreign policy.

Hence the difference.

Kashi in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is an ancient city that lies on the Old Silk Road. The city established a trade market Wednesday at its border with Pakistan to facilitate business activities between the two sides.

The market, covering an area of 1,700 square meters, is located on the Hunqrap Pass near the China-Pakistan border.

Kashi officials said some preferential policies had been adopted to encourage business.

For example, business people are exempt from paying a tariff if their daily turnover is less than 3,000 yuan (US$360), said Chen Ji, vice mayor of Kashi.

The border trade market will be open every Tuesday and Wednesday.

"In the future, we will take measures to improve policies and facilities relating to the market and gradually develop it into a free trade area between China and Pakistan," said Chen.

Kashi, located in the southwestern part of Xinjiang, has a history of more than 2,000 years. More than 90 percent of its population are ethnic Uygurs.

Situated strategically at the junction of the southern and northern routes of the Old Silk Road, historically it was an important trading stop for merchants from many parts of the world plying the trading route.

The city is now planning to take advantage of its geographical position to develop a trade center linking China to other Central Asian countries.

Xinjiang neighbors eight countries: Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, India and Turkmenistan.

Besides developing trade ties with its neighbors, the city is also making efforts to provide access for companies in China's coastal areas to develop business relations with these countries.

The TV manufacturer HiSense from Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province has set up a television assembly line in Kashi. The factory has become an important base for the company allowing it to more easily export TVs to neighboring countries, said Yalikun Mahanmut, mayor of the city.

Pakistan has also set up a Zakun International Trade Center in Kashi, the mayor added.

China plans new economic zones near western border

China has unveiled new plans to speed up the construction of two economic development zones in far-western Xinjiang, pledging greater investment, fiscal subsidies and measures to accelerate connecting the border region to Pakistan through railway lines and air routes.

The State Council, or Chinese cabinet, outlined the measures in a policy document released on Saturday, which, for the first time, detailed Beijing's already announced ambitious plans to set up two economic development zones in the frontier cities of Kashgar and Korgas, respectively located near China's borders with disputed ***************** Kashmir (***) and Kazakhstan.

The measures come as a number of companies which have planned to invest in the region have expressed concern over recent violence in Kashgar. Knife and bomb attacks in July, blamed by the local government on terrorists with links to Pakistan-based groups, left at least 20 people dead. The region has also seen ethnic unrest between the native Uighur population and Han Chinese migrants. Many companies have voiced fears that investment promised in plans to transform the city into a “Shenzhen of the west” have failed to materialise, according to representatives of three companies which have recently set up businesses in the region. Shenzhen, a sleepy southern fishing village, was China's first Special Economic Zone, transformed into a major trading hub.

Saturday's announcement is being seen as a move to boost the confidence of companies. The guidelines said the central government would offer subsidies every year until 2015, exempt enterprises from income-taxes, and offer loans at discounted rates. It would also adopt fiscal subsidies and tax breaks in both zones. Yang Jihong, an official with the Korgas zone, located near the city of Yining, told the State-run China Daily newspaper that Saturday's policy document was the most detailed yet since plans for both zones were first announced in May 2010.

“This is a long-awaited policy for us,” he said. “Although more time is needed to work out and finalise detailed measures, the guidelines have a milestone significance for the zone's development.” The measures also laid emphasis on boosting rail connectivity across China's western border, saying the government would increase investment and ‘actively promote' the construction of a China-Pakistan railway line, which would run from Kashgar through ***************** Kashmir (***). It would also support airlines which opened routes from Kashgar to neighbouring countries.

Mr. Yang, from Korgas, said the government had also approved the construction of a railway facility at the town and lines to, which, when completed, would become “the biggest transshipment station in Asia.”

A railway line through Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan will be built. Much of the development in Kashgar and Yining is expected to be led by State-run companies, which will invest 991.6 billion yuan ($155 billion) in Xinjiang from 2011 to 2015.

In August, Wang Yong, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), warned these companies, which account for 70 per cent of Xinjiang's industrial output, to boost local employment and not “expand blindly [and] abuse resources.” Locals have expressed concern in the past that high investment has not brought commensurate benefits to the local economy in terms of employment.

For instance, in Jiashixian, a high-tech industrial area near Kashgar, much of the investment was from companies in southern Guangdong, who also brought their own employees.

“There are few Uighurs working here,'' a representative of a company from Foshan, in Guangdong, involved in growing and selling high- end flowers said in a recent interview. Another plant, also run by the Foshan government, which has pledged 213 million yuan, hired only a few dozen locals. Saturday's document appeared to seek to address these concerns. It said companies would receive discounts on electricity and transportation costs if they hired more people.

We managed to have an effective nuclear deterrent no matter how broke we were and under sanctions India will never be allowed transit without the deal being acceptable to Pakistan
