NATO Leaders are gathering in Madrid, Spain to discuss important issues facing the Alliance. The Madrid Summit will set NATO’s strategic direction for the next decade and beyond, ensuring that the Alliance will continue to adapt to a changing world and keep its one billion people safe.

These are just some of the important questions that NATO Leaders will discuss during the Madrid Summit.....
  • How has Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the new security reality in Europe affected NATO’s approach to deterrence and defence?
  • What is the Alliance doing to address other challenges, like China’s growing influence and assertiveness or the security consequences of climate change?
  • What will be included in NATO’s next Strategic Concept, the blueprint for the Alliance’s future adaptation to a more competitive world where authoritarian powers try to push back against the rules-based international order?
  • Will the entry of Finland and Sweden be blocked by Turkey's sluggish positions?

.
I think Russia and China will be the official enemies after this summit.

And that Turkiye will accept Finland and Sweden membership in exchange of something.

.
As a result of that meeting, our foreign ministers signed a trilateral memorandum which confirms that Türkiye will at the Madrid Summit this week support the invitation of Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO. The concrete steps of our accession to NATO will be agreed by the NATO Allies during the next two days, but that decision is now imminent.

Our joint memorandum underscores the commitment of Finland, Sweden and Türkiye to extend their full support against threats to each other’s security. Us becoming NATO Allies will further strengthen this commitment.

.
I'm waiting for Sweden, because there have been rumors of political refugees being extradited to Turkey. I hope they are just rumors.

The main question they will discuss is " Russia called our bluff, what are we going to do now?" and "which country can we fu(k up next?".

lol, Russians are whining because west sends weapons to Ukraine and more is coming despite Russia threatening with nuclear weapons, etc.

The extraditions of political refugees?
He didnt say anything specific. He just confirmed the agreement. Sweden is not going to bend its laws. Stoltenberg is basically just dodging the press asking these questions.

Theyll fight terrorism and theyll support eachother.. Nothing new.

What I am reading is what Sweden and Finland announced before today's meeting. That is ...
  • Full co-operation with Turkey in the fight against the PKK and its affiliates.
  • Demonstration of solidarity with Turkey in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
  • Commitment not to support the PYD / YPG and FETO.
The question is whether the Turks won the extradition of political prisoners by baptizing them as .... terrorists. They even asked for the extradition of a dead man !!!

From what I hear, nothing specific in the agreement. The claim was that Sweden was supporting PKK and YPG and now they wont. I think the turkish and swedish interpretation is going to be different.
Sweden is going to “look” at those the turkish want extradited. But theyre going to follow swedish law.

I dont think that changes anything really. Its not like Finland or Sweden didnt fight terrorisme before, and Turkey still have to provide evidence before an extradition is going to happen.
I dont think Sweden or Finland were selling weapons to Turkey before the embargo, so lifting the embargo isnt really changing anything.
This agreement is a victory for all.

why because Russia invaded Ukraine ?

what about US invasion of Iraq and the continued support of US to Israel to carry out genocide in Palestine

Russia is only exposing Western hypocrisy

In this regard, the supreme approval authority in Turkiye is the Turkish Grand National Assembly. It is expected that the motions regarding the approval of the memberships of Finland and Sweden will come to the parliament in new legislative year.

If Sweden and Finland violate the memorandum and fail to meet the conditions, the parliament will reject this decision.
