Narendra Modi pitches Ahmedabad for 2024 Olympics, to submit plan to IOC

I understood, just wanted to poke you, in a friendly way)) hope you dont forget the bangla bhasha!

Sen, that is fine by me. Prod me as much as you would like too, hah. Just be weary, sometimes I have knee-jerk reactions, haha. And yes, certainly will not forget about my Bangla Basha, I love it there! I live in Sunamganj Sadar Upazilla, next to Tanguar Haor, the 'mother fishery'. Now you know why I like it there, I'm next to, two of my favorite things, fish and rice. Fish and Rice make a Bengali.

There is no point in conducting Olympics here until the quality of sports actually improves in India. Our priority should be to increase our medal tally to a respectable figure. Our medal tally in Olympics for a country of 1.2 billion is really embarrassing to say the least.

It's actually the worst.. India ranks last in the 139th position

134 Côte d'Ivoire 1 21,395,000 21,395,000
135 Tanzania 2 43,188,000 21,594,000
136 Sudan 1 30,894,000 30,894,000
137 Iraq 1 33,330,000 33,330,000
138 Vietnam 2 87,840,000 43,920,000
139 India 26 1,241,491,960 47,749,690

Olympic Medals per Capita

Medal tally will not improve unless something 'big' happens to sports in India. And that 'big' can be Olympics. Such huge international sports events can make people take interest in sports other than cricket. Welcome step by Modi

.
Maybe.. But then you have to consider the other contenders.. It's not a one horse race and given the history India will start the bid with a handicap.. A organization like IOC will not keep any chance for failure

And yes i'd agree.. Priorities should be elsewhere but i would'nt want to wade in to that subject since thats a internal issue for India.. My point view is solely on the bid for the games

What handicap? You talk about commonwealth games? india did them a favor by hosting it. Who else will give it that much power if it had actually succeeded? Little countries like New Zealand or Britain or Sri Lanka? If it had succeeded here, then that's one of the most powerful countries in the world endorsing the relevance of the Comonwealth, something they'll never get with any other countries in the CW.

As far as Olympics goes, from Barcelona onwards, there has been a cautious look at it. It needs billions, but doesn't seem to give any returns. With world economy in doldrums everyone is cautious. The way I look at it, if any other country wants to leverage, good. But we definitely don't need these adventures right now. We keep focused on our economy for at least 20 more years. After that we can take stock about whether a 'profile improvement' is needed or not. Much like China- they spent decades building themselves up and after that decided on the Olympics to push up their overall image. That is the right way of doing it.

They made such lofty predictions for the CWG, Nothing came out of it other than bad news.. Hosting mega sporting events does not necessarily bring you sporting achievements, Grass root development does..

It will be great opportunity fir Indian Muslims to remember and educate the world and show the bloody clothes to IOC meetings, distribute photos and videos of Muslim genocide in Gujarat by Hindutva lunatics headed by Modi.
good joke:rofl::rofl:

Hi
So I might be lucky enough to witness an Olympics in a cricket crazy nation before my generation dies out. It's starting to sound much more fun.
Cheers
Thanks

CWG was managed shoddily right from the begining. It was a disaster waiting to happen. It was meant for the congress party leaders to make money and not for improving Indian sports.

Yes the CWG.. The point is it was a massive failure, And that black mark is something India has to deal with when they bid for these mega events.. I dont agree with some of these arguments about hosting Olympics will miraculously start producing world class athletes in India.. And thats not just a case for India.. It's a case for any country.. You need to have a ingrained sporting culture and grass root development .. Not billions of dollars of Infrastructure and advertising promotions

Take for example the much celebrated Indian F1.. Sporting pundits predicted the next big motor racing nation would be India two years down the line not only have they lost the hosting rights but not even come close producing driver capable of that level.. Though Bernie Eccelstone laughed his way to the bank.. Being great sports fans does not necessarily make you great sportspersons

On the other hand few decades back India kept producing world class tennis players with little or no infrastructure or sponsorship money.. Why ? Because there was grass root passion for Tennis in South India and a culture atleast among the elite to take to the game

India doesn't have to deal with 'Black Mark', India did a favor by trying to host the CWG. Plus we have multi-billion dollar sporting events happening all the time in Cricket, probably the most powerful country in the world on that.

Yes, India doesn't have a sporting culture and that will mean that we will not be able to win many medals. We have to work towards that with or without the Olympics anyway. But as far as 'hosting' is concerned, we can make a bid that fihgts with the best of them.

Well whether India did or didn't do a favor for the CWG committee does not matter to the IOC, What they look at is the record and the capability for the bidding nation to host the worlds biggest sporting event.. And for them the CWG failure is a grave matter

You cant even compare Cricket tourneys to Olympics ,mate.. Be serious.. 10 nation global minority sport to 139 nation worlds biggest sporting event.. You cant even fathom it let alone compare.. You gotta be kidding there.. I live in a city what many considers one of the epicenters of global sport, A venue for some of the biggest annual sporting events ATP tour, Grand Prix, Grand Prix Tennis, Footy ,Rugby Union, Rugby League, NRL, Swimming and Cricket events comes way way behind in magnitude, Including the just concluded WC.. You have no idea

On the third point i dont think there is anything to argue about you have basically reiterated what i mentioned
