What is the point of having these kind of schemes ? How is it going to serve poor people ? Does Indian Govt has that much of money in case people does not pay the money back after taking loan or will it be an added burden on tax payers only ?

While you and me take it for granted, bank accounts can be difficult to open for the under priviledged. My maid back in India was complaining one day about how the banks make it impossible for her to open a bank account. Once she is connected, she can take advantage of services like cash transfers, atm cards, etc which improve her quality of life.
