Najam Sethi has clearly brushed off the Daily Mail’s Indian edition claim that the ICC has threatened the PCB with legal action if Pakistan backs off from participating in the upcoming World T20 over the security concerns.
According to the Chairman of cricket board’s executive committee, Najam Sethi, the ICC has just inquired from the PCB about their status regarding the upcoming World T20 tournament that is to be hosted by India. Sethi has communicated the International Cricket Council that they have sent an application to the government of Pakistan for the approval to travel to India and just waiting for the response.
The Daily Mail published on Feb, 15 2016 edition that the ICC has coined PCB’s security concerns as totally baseless as they are completely satisfied with the security arrangements by the hosting country, India. The same report also quotes some words of a key ICC official that when Pakistan’s athlete can travel to India for South Asian Games, then why can’t 20 people travel for the mega event.
On the other hand, Najam Sethi has clearly stated that the ICC has not asked the PCB anything other than the current status, neither they have replied with any other details.
Recently, the PCB Chairman, Shaharyar Khan proposed the ICC to conduct their bouts of World T20 at neutral venues, in case the Pakistani government does not allow the team to participate in the mega event hosted by India.
