KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday announced to contest elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker slots in National Assembly, Geo News reported.
According to a statement issued, MQM urges other opposition parties to support its candidates in the elections.
MQM thanked the political parties, which consulted it to determine the name of opposition leader for the National Assembly.
Earlier, Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah collected the nomination papers for his party's candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker slot, while consultation meeting was underway to nominate party's candidates.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had already taken the nomination papers.
The sources said that the elections of Speaker and Deputy Speaker are expected to be held among MQM, PPP and PML-N.
