Moscow to seek damages if Mistral ship not delivered by end Nov - source — RT News

Russia will make financial claims to France if the first of two Mistral helicopter carriers is not delivered by the end of November, an anonymous high-ranking source told RIA Novosti, adding that the sum of the forfeit will be revealed.

"We are preparing for different scenarios. We are waiting until the end of the month [the fulfillment of Mistral deal], then we will make serious claims," the source said on condition of anonymity.

According to the source, experts are currently analyzing possible damage to Russia if the deal is not fulfilled, and the estimated sum will be made public.

"This amount [of compensation] will not be secret," the source added.

In the meantime, another Russian source in the sphere of military-technical cooperation told RIA Novosti that France hasn’t yet withdrawn the invitations to the delivery ceremony for the vessel.

”The French are keeping silent. They invited us [to the ceremony], but haven’t withdrawn their invitation yet. [We haven’t received] any official address [from them],” he added.

On Thursday, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Paris hasn’t yet fixed a date for delivery of the first of two Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia (scheduled for November 14).

"The president of the Republic has said that a definitive decision will come at the right moment, taking into account all the responsibilities that come with this decision, which is not a simple one," he added.

In October, French and Russian officials received invitation letters for the ceremony of the Mistral ship’s delivery. France’s Le Nouvel Observateur magazine wrote on Wednesday that they were sent by DCNS, a French industrial group specializing in naval defense and energy. The group later said that the invitations were issued by mistake.

Russia and France signed a €1.12 billion (US$1.6 billion) deal to build two Mistral helicopter carriers back in June 2011. The contract says that Russia was supposed to receive the first of the two warships, the Vladivostok, in October 2014.

However, the delivery of the vessel was postponed due to the conflict in Ukraine and pressure applied by the US and EU on France to cancel the contract.

Western allies have been pushing Paris for months, saying that France has to make sacrifices to meet its commitment to oppose Moscow through sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine.

According to the sources, the non-delivery of the two Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia could reach $ 3 billion.

The second Mistral-class helicopter carrier, the Sevastopol, is expected to be handed over to Russia next year.

If Moscow paid France, and France didn't deliver the goods, then Moscow has every right to ask for compensation. I am sure their negotiators would have thought about politics while concluding this deal.

Point is who will listen to them??
The same people under whose pressure the mistral is stuck??:azn:

France is playing a dangerous game. How can they be trusted in defense deals with any country to deliver on time if they buckle under pressure from their allies ? This could simply be a convenient excuse for France to delay the delivery and claim more money later

For Bhabi I had to buy a 4 wheel drive Audi Q7 . She didn't want her hair upset when we hit those potholes in Harare. Makes the Rafael look outdated :D

Get her a G class. Enough space between her and the tree that she is inevitably going to run into while setting her hair.

:P

You should watch the animals bolt out of the way when she goes zooming down those roads. Had enough complaints from the local SPCA :D

I guess consular status has its benefits. But seriously, why a Q7?

It does indeed :D

She wanted something "sexy looking" which would be capable of fetching her damn family when they visited and which would handle her excessive shopping. I suggested importing an elephant from India first but she didn't find that funny :D
Apart from the fact that most diplomats and politicians in Zimbabwe drive Q7s . Helps us get past those pesky roadblocks quicker

Women and their choices....
Lol.....you sure she is not lurking somewhere here?
Q7 is nice and smooth and of course, nothing beats the Audi Quattro. I never liked the crossovers concept though. Either an elegant sedan (read E/S class etc) or a full suv ( read Escalade, G class, LC) etc.

I switch off PDF whenever I hear her walking towards my study. @seiko and @Armstrong know too much of my whining and complaining about her. If she gets on PDF, my hospital bill will go through the roof :D

I prefer the ML 500. We have one for use by the office staff but it is a bit wrecked since Zim roads seem too tough for it. Had an E Class whilst I was based in South Africa. A donkey on take off :D
