Modi's Water Miracle In Gujarat.

Miracle! OK.
Sarcasm? Ok, never mind. Do you know that Pakistan will soon run out of water by 2030? Therefore, Pakistan needs to completely rethink its entire approach to its water resources. It will take time to implement solutions to these problems, and yet time is in very short supply.

The current status quo in water management in Pakistan is characterized by waste, provincial disputes, corruption, and poor infrastructure and an utter lack of ideas. Currently, around one-third of the water from the irrigation system is lost in delivery due to seepage and malfunctioning watercourses. Still, this number does not seem to faze your officials in Islamabad, as Pakistan continues to push for the construction of expensive new dams, such as Diamer Bhasha, instead of renovating its decaying irrigation system.

In fact, there is evidence that dam projects have contributed greatly to water-logging and soil salinity, making large chunks of agricultural land useless. Over-extraction of groundwater negatively affects the salt content of soil, leading to further environmental destruction.

Urban areas lack adequate water treatment facilities. Only about 7.7 percent of urban waste-water undergoes treatment. Most of the time, household and industrial waste is simply dumped into nearby waterways. This practice has dramatically raised the level of pollution in both groundwater and river systems, and constitutes a major concern for public health.

The situation in Pakistan seems grim, but there are steps that can be taken towards ensuring water security. And thus you guys can take the help of Modi's expertise!! ;)

Hopefully the PM replicates such success across India.

Cost about $80 billion over 15 years.

Seriously though, I hope you are right that he is able to replicate this and scale it up to be nationwide. He certainly has a lot on his plate.

Sure he will. Now he has lot more money and power to his discretion.

Are we looking at an emerging super power? China's $40 billion worth of MOUs signed recently plus the $30 billion MOUs signed in 2010 making it a total of $70 billion or Rs700,000 crores PKR will zoom it ahead of even Europe!

But alas, things don't work out that way!

Why bother? It is FAR easier to blame India for all of Pakistan's water woes- bloody water terrorists! Pakistan's abysmal water management is neither here nor there ;)

Mega projects like this are the reason India is guaranteed to be a great power (if they are implemented properly that is but the right PM is there right now so it seems more than likely).

The Indus river used to flow into Rann of Kutch but after the 1819 earthquake changed direction westwards and joined Arabian sea near Karachi. After the 2001 Gujarat earthquake at number of places new fresh water springs appeared most probably from the new Indus river underground channel.
