In occupied Kashmir, reacting to BJP prime ministerial candidate Nareinder Modi’s remarks that his party will pursue Vajpayee’s policy vis-à-vis Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders have stated that in the past tall claims were also made during elections, but at the end of the day these claims have turned out to be a hoax.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview said, “We will closely monitor what their measures will be for the Kashmir resolution.”
However, Mirwaiz observed that at the time when the people of India were choosing their government at New Delhi, it must be understood that it was the Kashmir issue that needed to be resolved for a sustainable peace not only in India but in the entire South Asian region.
He added that the defense expenditure had reached to 48 billion dollars and due to Kashmir issue more than 40% of India’s population was living under below poverty line. The Mirwaiz maintained that the people in India must understand the importance of Kashmir resolution so that new horizons could be scanned with hope and zest.
The forum led by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani said that Vajpayee had no policy over Kashmir and the same was being politicized in an absurd manner. “Neither Modi nor does anyone else have sincere policy over Kashmir resolution and even Kejriwal has anti-Kashmir policy,” it said.
Senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah while addressing a rally at Hira Nagar in Jammu stated that the Modi would never follow Vajpayee’s suits.
