Southern neighbor India is providing Nepal Army a 14-seater ALH Dhruv Mark 3 chopper. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the chopper to Nepal during his participation in the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit.

Prime Minister Modi will hand over the helicopter to the Nepal Army amidst a program to be organized at the Army Pavilion Tundilkhel upon his arrival on Tuesday. According to a source, at first Modi will hand over the helicopter to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and then Koirala will hand over the chopper to Chief of Army Staff General Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana.

“Indian Prime Minster will hand over the chopper to the Nepal Army amidst a special program at Army Pavilion Tundikhel on Tuesday,” said Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, adding, “The helicopter, which Nepal is receiving as aid, has been already brought to Kathmandu on Saturday.”

Dhruv Mark 3 chopper manufactured by Indian state-owned aerospace and defense company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd will be kept at the Army Pavilion Tundikhel during handover program. The chopper is being provided to Nepal in accordance with the past agreement reached between Nepal and India.

How about first Handing over those choppers to the Indian Army
Indian Army still has 60+ Dhruvs/Rudras on order while IAF has 50+ on order, not to mention the recent Navy-Coast Guard order for 36 Dhruvs.
We are better off fulfilling domestic demand before giving theses Helis for free to ingrates like Nepal

we need another line for dhruv. dhruv has the potential to be a number seller. provided you play it right..

14 seats in a light helo?

EDIT: Yup its correct, it can fit 14 passengers if you make it tight. :D.

Lets hope the nepalese have a few extra helicopter pilots that they dont mind losing

The IA and IAF have had Mk.3 ALHs for some time now, they are already inducting the Mk.IV now. But yes, it is true that HAL should increase the ALH production rate.

Building the capacities of the neighbourhood nations is also important, if Nepal doesn't have such helicopters who do you think they will (and do) call when they need such assets? India of course. Nepal having these birds will lessen the burden on the IAF and IA to support a foreign nation.

In last months everest disastar, It was clearly seenthat non availability of rescue choppers hindering Nepalese Armies rescue efforts. One chopper is not enough though. :coffee:
