If there is no market for F-3, then it will end up like the F-2 program, an over expensive toy with limit capability. This is why I kept telling our Nihon friend that this program is about dick-measuring stick than real strategic depth. I also don't see our American friend too happy seeing another 5th gen to take their market share away. They already invest a lot in F-35 and the last thing they want is to have another buyer ditching their product.

If US still made diesel sub, Australia would not be buying from Japan. unlike US European allies, US still have very big influence over Japan, it would not be allowed to compete with US in arms sale, every country who could receive ATD-X is either already or will be forced into buying F-35.

That because US has integrated their weapon system together into a single unit. It is not easy for any of the US buyer to separate their system from the US unless they start from scratch and we all know the US will have a voice in any export sale because certain part in the tech IP belong to the US. This is the case with Korea. They have a hard time moving away from the US for this reason. Japan would not be any different. I expect the US to play a huge role in the ATD-X program if they decide to go ahead because quite frankly without the US's green light, Japan will fail the program miserably. This is the truth that cheerleader don't really understand. Remember, integrating various weapon system is the game of information era.

So no need to think about selling for a decade less competing with US
