I've been to Vietnam. All I saw was either Chinese ancient cities (like Hue) or colonial concessions (like Saigon).

Traditional architecture in China is protected, because of the revival of Confucianism, traditional aesthetics is popular in China. Not only traditional city the Suzhou （苏州）and Yangzhou （扬州), Even in the emerging cities like Chengdu or Chongqing, traditional buildings are also popular.

looks nice. unfortunately economically Vietnam is somewhat 20 years behind of chinese cities, the people more concentrate on making a living, rather than building ancient architectur. I think in 10 years from now we may go back to vietnamese root. right now, even in every small viet city there is constrction similar like that.
