It's not Turkey, you, or me, or the people of the country who made the wrong bet- it was Erdogan and his four finger Muslim brothers clique who did... On the other hand how can we be sure that if the bet they made won in the end it would have been a win for Turkey in the long term? I am not so sure that a bunch of MB religious fanatics on our border would have been a better neighbour than Assad.
From the day this war started it was a sure thing that Syria will never be the same country again. Now it's too late to bring back the balance of pre-war Syria (that thing won't happen even if Assad conquers 100% of the territory) or to create a new one (with the country devided between so many players who invested billions in arming different militant and terror groups...). Syria will be a big mess and a threat to the stability in the region for a really long time. Unfortunately when a bunch of power/money hungry ignorant people who are not even feeling Turkish have to determine the foreign policy of the country shit happens in 90% of the time.

The best thing Turkey could have done was to just stay neutral and to give shelter and support ONLY to the Syrian Turkmens.

Foreign influence on the PMU is steadily decreasing. Sadr is quite influential and has taken a nationalistic direction therefor he is good. Iranian influence on the PMU has been exaggerated by the west, Kurds are very much behind this as well in their attempts to have the west ditch Baghdad.

As for the PKK, Erdogan still doesn't seem to understand that his friendly ties to Barzanistan is the biggest enabler of the PKK and PJAK. Such a joint operation will not be as effective as people here think as long as he holds friendly ties to PKK's enabler.

How so? Sadr is influential but so are other Shia figures within the country, including Sistani (not particularly pro-Iran as well), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Hadi al-Amiri, Qais Khazali.

In fact, many of Sadr's former high ranking militia officials left his organization and head their own militia now, with support from Iran.

Iranian influence on the PMU has been exaggerated by the west, Kurds are very much behind this as well in their attempts to have the west ditch Baghdad.

Iran's influence in the country might be exaggerated from time to time, but nevertheless it has arguably more influence over the Iraqi Shia population and central government then any other regional or international country.

I think the opposite. Mollas has relaised supporting pkk terrorism against Turkey is not a Good idea.
pkk was a usefull weapon for all the countries which they can use against Turkey. But now it is not danger only for us. This changed Iran's politics against pkk nothing has changed in Turkish politics.

Its a lot for translate but I will give you short summary. Turkey and Iran plan the operation in Northern Iraq on 3 stages and the operation will be conducted with the model of the operation of Srilankan army against the terrorist organization Tamil Tigers that targeted and killed the leaders of the organization and shut down their activities. Turkey and Iran are trying to get to 7 point agreement over the regional security issues. The negotiations will go on till 5th September. If Iran and Turkey agree on the points there will be operation against PKK and its wings over 9 strategic areas of Kandil mountain and over 4 strategic areas of Sinjar. In the first stage Turkish Air Force will launch 8-10 day operation over 48 camps and 19 camps that are close to the Turkish border will be first priority targets. The second stage of the operation will include 42 000 iranian soldiers that will be deployed on and behind the front. They will target the areas on the Iranian border and will continue the operation all the way to Kandil. With the situation in the mountain and the bad terrain there Turkey is expected to act with high trained soldiers in small teams most likely Commando and Special forces will be participating. The Turkish Air Force will give the support needed from the air trough all the stages of the operation. In the 3th stage the Turkish Armed Forces and MIT will conduct operations in important areas like Zap, Avasin and Caykurna. The other part of the wide scale operation will be Sinjar. The operation in Sinjar will be conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces and the participation of Hashdi Shaabi is being discussed. There will be 7 camps in Sinjar that will be high priority targets. The operation is planned to start in the month of October and is expected to end in like the second week of December. While the operation is being conducted the Iranian forces will close 28 strategic ways out of Kandil in order to prevent the run of the terrorist leaders to Iran. The operation will target to shut down and destroy PKK. Iran and Turkey are discussing a Iranian base that will stay in Kandil for at least 5 years after the operation in order to prevent the organization to rise again. Damn I am good!
