MH17 Plane Crash Resolution Orchestrated by Western Intelligence

Willy Wimmer, former state secretary in the German Defense Ministry, said that resolutions like the one to establish an international tribunal to investigate the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine undermine the United Nations.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — The UN Security Council draft resolution on establishing a tribunal on the MH17 flight crash is being orchestrated by Western intelligence agencies, a former state secretary in the German Defense Ministry told Sputnik Tuesday.

Earlier in July, Malaysia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for the creation of an independent UN tribunal to identify and prosecute those responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that crashed in eastern Ukraine in July 2014.

Kiev and some of its Western allies have blamed local independence supporters, who they claim are supported by Russia militarily, for the tragedy.

“For many of my fellow countrymen, the resolution concerning a tribunal on MH17 is politically motivated and orchestrated along the Anglo-Saxon intelligence network of the "big five eyes," which includes Australia and others,” Willy Wimmer said.

The Five Eyes is an alliance of the US, UK, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian intelligence agencies. According to confidential documents, leaked by former US NSA contractor Edward Snowden in 2013, the network shares information on their surveillance of citizens.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that the Malaysian initiative is premature and counterproductive. Moscow insists that it is necessary to wait for the Dutch Safety Board to release their final report into the crash, expected in October 2015.

“The air disaster in Ukrainian airspace and the subsequent efforts to blame one country for the disaster, regardless of which forces were responsible, creates a disastrous image of how far governments will go to create reasons to go to war against the one country they had in mind from the beginning,” Wimmer said.

Earlier in July, Malaysia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for the creation of an independent UN tribunal to identify and prosecute those responsible for the downing of the plane last July in eastern Ukraine.

“Resolutions like this one destroy the United Nations and the idea of world peace and cooperation,” Willy Wimmer said.

On Monday, Russia’s envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said that Moscow will vote against the draft resolution. Russia has stressed that it is necessary to wait for the final results of the Dutch Safety Board inquiry into the matter before proceeding further.

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashed in Ukraine's eastern region of Donetsk en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 people on board, mostly Dutch citizens, died. According to a preliminary report by the Dutch Safety Board, the plane fell apart in midair after being hit by numerous high-energy objects.

The plane crashed because Ukrainian forces fired on it.
