Those who dismiss this theory should answer one question. If thier marriage was real, why this couple of Shoaib-Sania still don't have kid even after 6 years of marriage? Are they infertile? Do they have problems in conceiving? They are international celebrities. They can easily avail the help of latest technology to have their own kid if they wanted.

Come on! I don't want to get into their personal business. They don't want a kid because of Sania's career (In my personal it is a wrong approach but that's their choice) until a few more years when she takes a retirement or reduces playing tennis. A few couple in my family also decided to wait until the wife finished her education, job etc.

Cant say if 7.5% figure is correct or not but cases in Pakistan are high and the primary reason as stated are the cousin marriages..

I believe if your parent/grand parent/great grand parent married to their cousin and you also opt to marry to your cousin then this will probably increases the odds of birth defects

That 13.3 means shit. If their suggestions can become the law and policies in screening....and they save even 50 human lives from being permanently disabled or mentally challenged, I think the money spent on the study is much worth it.

You guys from India are so sadly materialistic that everything looks like a number to you. Human life doesn't have a cost or number to it in any journal. If this was being done in India, I would still commend this work as at the end of the day, it will save human life and suffering of poor people.

Actually its not bared in the religion hence government cannot declare it illegal. But i am surprised at the stubbornness of the people. I remember my colleague had 3 of his sons deaf and dumb because of this yet again he got his elder son who was the only one who was not deaf and dumb again married with his cousin and i was like Shah sb you know the results of this why do you do it and i was even more amazed by his reply, Yar aisi bahir shadi ker lain to sadhi larkiyaan bhati rahain.

But if the government simplified the scientific discovery, showed the study public and helped people understand through an easy-to-understand wording, I am sure the common Pakistanis will listen. Don't call it illegal; just make the people aware and let them decide.
