European missile firm MBDA has pitched the Missile Moyenne Portée (Medium Range Missile) fifth generation anti-tank missile system for co-development and co-production in India. The company has opened preliminary discussions with the Indian Army and DRDO to pursue the pitch. The MMP is described by MBDA as a lightweight weapon system, easily man-portable high level of day and night, all-weather reconnaissance and identification capability, with a confined space firing capability, rapid reaction operation, firing sequence reversibility, lethality against a wide target set: hot and cold targets, including the latest MBTs, with collateral damage risk minimization qualities. The Indian Army recently selected the Israeli Spike ATGM to meet its immediate requirement. The PARS 3 air-launched anti-armour missile for the ALH Rudra armed helicopter is currently under progress, with no decision made yet. The MMP, MBDA believes, will allow India to be involved in the crucial testing and advanced development phase of the weapon system to meet future needs just of the Indian armed forces but foreign armies as well. In December 2011, the French defence procurement agency DGA had awarded MBDA a risk reduction contract for the MMP programme that will now replace the MILAN weapon system which has been in service with the French armed forces since 1974, and with the Indian Army as well.

Everyone is looking at india like some money bags arms buyer

Isn't that logical? We have the demand, we have the money, we still struggle with basic defence developments. All this makes India very attractive. All that counts is, how we deal with this with the best interest of India in mind. Going for Pars 3 for example makes no sense after selecting SPIKE which at the end will be produced to a large extend in India, complementing NAG and HELINA.

If this provides valuable experience we should go for it

Experience for what? We already have comparable developments, we will get valuable technical and industrial input from the SPIKE deal. So ATGMs is currently the last area where we would need another development or?

MBDA is desperate.

MBDA: "DRDO, please, work with us too"
DRDO: "No, we have made Agni, Akash, Nag. We will make it on our own. If we need anything, we go to Israel."

Can you list what benefits we will get from the Spike deal

Can't tell what ToT exactly will be shared, but the Rafael officials at Aero India stated that up to 90% of the missile will be build in India at the end.

Not really, since these generation talk is mainly PR and doesn't take away from the facts that I mentioned. Even IF our forces would require a NG missile development, it would be logical to base a new development on the one we already have NAG / Helina, because we already are developing expertise in this field and SPICE ToT will now add to the expertise.
The point however is, with the large order of Russian ATGMs and now the SPIKE, as well as NAG, we have already filled that requirement. If they had offered it in competition to SPIKE like the US did with their offer to jointly develop a NG Javelin, it would had been a different case and maybe something to consider, but that ship has sailed.

.
if India doesn't want to partner up maybe the U.S should. TOW system is too bulky and Javelin is too expensive.

in hindsight we should of went with Spike.

by a co-development we will get some technology. as in the case of NAG, it is not the best ATGM in the world so as the spike. javelin is the best one, due to lack of ToT india rejected javelin. if MBDA is willing to do a joint development with us then we should consider it.
