May 12 tragedy victims await justice after nine years

Nine years have passed since the 12th of May 2007 tragedy which left 50 martyred and numerous wounded. Years after the deadly incident, victims still await justice. Neither trials were held nor punishments given. Lawyers will observe a ‘Black Day’ and boycott the courts on Thursday to mark the incident.

With thousands awaiting the arrival of then Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the lawyers’ movement in its full swing, the city of Karachi witnessed a bloodbath on its roads that day. Containers were placed and the city saw a virtual lockdown. Those who dared crossing the barriers and heading towards the airport to greet the CJP, were brutally gunned down. The slaughter continued throughout the day and long into the night.

Lawyers of City Court, High Court and Malir Courts were unable to leave their offices and faced severe difficulties. Even Judges who arrived to the Courts to fulfill their duties had to climb and jump over walls to flee the area. Terrorism ran rampant and the normal hustle and bustle of the city was silenced by thundering sounds of the ammunition.

Though the former CJP, being involved in the incident, could not take action on the attack, but formed a 5 member larger bench for inquiry of the incident. However, emergency was declared in the country after the attacks.

With lawyers leading the movement in jails, the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) Judges closed the matter without taking any major action.

With passing time the incident has faded into the backdrop, but refuses to be washed away from history as victims of the tragedy still seek justice.

MQM may never come to answer for its crimes or for the fact that in 1984 MQM was formed and from 1985-1990 around 3000 people were killed and from 1986-1996 around 10000 were killed. The rise of MQM has been marred with violence but our relatives in karachi will continue to blindly support the MQM. I do not believe there is much hope. As long as they have these blind voters they have the justification of remaining in power and killing innocent people.

When we do not wake up even after the Ajmal Paharis and Saulat Mirza's clear bayans then when will we wake up? Continue sleeping people.

We will continue to support MQM as long as the state lacks moral authority. The Pakistan Army is called Punjabi Army in our circle. Have you ever cared why do we think this way.

Why the stupid Punjabi narrative is the national narrative? Is the state structure purely national and impartial?

MQM girls are taunting the Rangers in the streets. Had these so-called men in uniform possess any dignity or honour worthy of a soldier, they would have committed suicide upon being ridiculed by their own country folks.
The hatred for Punjabis is seething from your post. A very attypical response to injustices committed by our party, a party made by muhajirs. As I have stated a million times muhajirs love playing the victim card and our very adopted ethnic identity has become a threat to the diversity and ethnic unity of Pakistan.

People like you would readily call a Madrasi with whom as a Lucknowi I share no cultural or other links with a muhajir brother while condescendingly looking down at Punjabis. How can we get along with a person with so many cultural differences and lump ourselves in one group but dare to criticize the punjabi who is my countryman and my brother.

You guys are the reason for the problems existing in Karachi because you vote blindly. Punjab has never taken a single right from Muhajirs ever. Economically as an ethnic group muhajirs are richer and better educated than punjabis as a whole. The Punjabis atleast are not locked in a cycle of ethnic hatred like we are.

Don't blame others for the mistakes our people, people like Altaf Hussain, Saulat Mirza and Ajmal Pahari made.

All should be prosecuted, but what about the MQM guys that were killed on the same day? Or this time all paindus would start believing in conspiracies and say MQM killed its own members. Strange when its your turn you call MQM terrorists but when MQM workers get killed its a conspiracy. Get rid of this stupid mentality, provide proper justice to all sides not just one.

Who went after PPP Liyari gang, ANP target killers who were resposible for 12 may MQM worker killers ? Muhaajir Farishtay from seventh sky ? Or Paindu Rangers of Sindh ?

I mean there is a limit to stupidity. Dr Imran farooq example is infront of us all. Tariq Azeem example is infront of us all. Or they were killed by Paindu shaytaans from hell ? and it is obviously just a conspiracy theory to blame MQM or altaf target killers for their murders
