Malik warns Taliban to quit Buner or face action

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan warned the Taliban on Tuesday it would expand a military offensive to Buner if the guerrillas did not withdraw from the area, according to Reuters.

Prime Minister’s Advisor on the Interior Rehman Malik said around 450 Taliban were reported to have sneaked into Buner on Monday.

‘I warn them to vacate the area. We are not going to spare them,’ he told reporters.

‘Action will be taken if anyone tries to block our efforts to re-establish writ of the government in Buner and other areas,’ he said.

The interior chief also said that religious scholars must condemn menace of extremism, DawnNews adds.

Pakistani security forces launched an offensive against militants in the Lower Dir district of North West Frontier Province’s Malakand Division on Sunday to stop the militants spreading out of the Swat valley.

Military officials say around 70 militants have been killed in fighting since Sunday. Independent casualty estimates are unavailable.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Ulema (religious scholars) demanded the immediate withdrawal of the military from Malakand Division.

Buner and Swat are both in Malakand, where President Asif Ali Zardari this month reluctantly agreed to impose the Nizam-i-Adl Regulation (Sharia law) in a bid to persuade the Taliban in Swat to lay down their arms.

But emboldened by government’s concession, Taliban fighters began moving into Buner and nearby Shangla district.

Did someone hear him say "enough is enough", we have waited enough, now it is time to react?

It was enough months ago.
Let's see how well our Army deals with these scumbags now.
If I were to believe Mr. Malik, the Taliban's days in Pakistan seem to be over now that the Army is marching forwards.
However, the credibility of our government and their words have sunk to an all-time low, I will not say much untill I see concrete results.
Let's see first then comment.

They way the talibans are now pissed off after the Dir operation, due to the causalities and their a$$ being kicked, it is clear that the LEAs are falling hard on them this time.

You must have seen the press conference of these talibans on the tv a few minutes earlier, they were totally bewildered and were blaming everything on the govt and the security forces and were trying hard to show themselves as the custodians of peace, funny indeed!

.
gov should launch a massive operation to finish them once and for all. but before doing that they should take everyone into confidence in the coming APC. we have still got few parties who are against military operation. we can swear at them as many times as we want but in the end they do matter. it appears thats wat the gov is tryin to do.

.
Its becoming increasingly clear TTP is not interested in peace they are only using Shariah as a cover for thier nefarious designs, the nizam e adl regulation has been enforced in SWAT because people wanted it which in my opinion is a good step because this has exposed the Taliban who were campaigning for the enforcement of Shariah but not on Talibans terms they have not laid down thier arms they have clearly breached the conditions of the deal.

TTP wants to build thier own empire which is clearly not acceptable in any circumstances.
