Sukhoi, which is Russia's top aircraft manufacturer, is hoping to sign a partnership deal with Tata this year, which would enable it to manufacture key airplane parts for its 100-seat Superjet, that is aimed to be marketed in India.

Officials from both companies are in crucial stages of talking about outsourcing manufacturing of the aircraft parts, said Eugene Andrachnikou, senior VP (Sales and Marketing) at Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCA), which is the producer of Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100).

Andrachnikou added that once all specifics are agreed upon, production of SSJ100 parts would be given to Tata Advanced Systems.

The SSJ100 is the first 100-seat jet that has a full fly-by- wire system, and is designed to optimise handling, reduce flight crew workload and maximise the fuel efficiency.


Andrachnikou was speaking at the Singapore Airshow 2016, where he said that SCA had also initiated discussions with Indian airlines on deploying the SSJ100 in the country. The aircraft can carry 100-120 passengers over a distance of 4,200 kilometers.

"We expect to put about 50 SSJ100 in the Indian market with the next three to five years," he added. This proves that India remains an attractive market for the superjet.

This could be a good JV for Indian domestic industry and at the same time boost for domestic flying..as India suffers in ground infrastructure very much..making flying cheaper could help

TATA already makes sub-assemblies for Boeing, Airbus and Sikorsky so this will be anice addition to their portfolio.

Yup! We should grab any manufacturing with both hands.

If there is one comparative advantage that India holds over China, that is Western companies (and Russian, in this case) tend to trust Indian system more to protect their Intellectual Properties than China.

This, if India play her cards right, could be used for our advantage to attract high-end and IPR-sensitive manufacturing.

This could be our niche in manufacturing which is otherwise crowded out by far more efficient and connected China and other East Asian countries.
