Make in India: Rafale deal may take off as a joint venture between French and Indian firm

It is rather confusing...so many conflicting reports on Rafale.

36 planes are what India is getting....that is what I am sure. DM interview was very confusing regarding the remaining number.
As I mentioned earlier, the remainder Rafales wiill be manufactured in India by a consortium led by HAL - Dassault. This would start by 2018 by when all the required infrastructure would be in place for their manufacture. 11 Rafales per year will be built in France starting soon.

Actually the DM was silent on the issue you are talking. The deal is scrapped and the final number of Rafale is not announced and is kept in limbo...It is rather confusing. Now no where the 'make in India' fits here

I think another 30 odd will be ordered through GtoG route in flying conditions. Probably the remaining funds will be diverted to Tejas and AMCA for 'make in India'.

Rafales at 200 million a piece are costly for India to afford. The total cost for 126 planes with ToT will cross $ 25 billion. Getting 60 odd rafales in flying conditions for $10 billion and directing the remaining funds $15 billion to AMCA make sense

.
It will make sense. While 36 immediate Rafales will give some relief, It will also give some time to MoD to work on make in India route for more Rafales as Parrikar suggesting.( scrapping rfp route of troubled mmrca).

.
Rafales will be serving in IAF for the next 25 years minimum. So chance of obsolescence is far.

To avoid confusion, I am sticking my guns to Doordarshan and Pressi Information Bureau.

I suggest you guys do the same. Most private channels and print tend to create stories out of thin air to increase their TRP as is widel evident these days.

Hence the PM's instruction to all fellow senior ministers to give interviews ONLY to DD or PTI. That's it. Other news channels will have to source official comments from these people.
No need to get confused here . Long story short .

MMRCA cancelled due to HAL manpower saga which increased the price
G2G deal for 36 already agreed by both . Now since we have given more than what french asked for . We expect the same from the French . Not more but rather do what they been asking for very long time. Which is to partner with reliance to assemble and manufacturing 30-50 % offset clauses . In addition we have asked them to reduce the price since the new assembly line will be fully dedicated to this purpose and with sufficient amount from French (30+% offset ) + Investment from Reliance or L&T or Both ( looks like both will share)

So by that time induct some 5/6 squadrons of tejas mk1 But with improvements . As per our DM own words .

So may be additional 90+ rafale is on the card so the french will be more than happy to go for it . As their supply line will be busy for the next 4/5 years until they develop infrastructure to produce 30 per year . Right now 12 per years . 36+ 36 Egypt orders + their own 60+ .

100 Tejas MK1 + 126 Rafale to replace Mig21 and Mig27 in the next 6-9 years and so on .

DM stressed it's many interview that this 36 rafale is of strategic importance ( Nuclear deep strike missions probably) And so there should be G2G instead of these whole MMRCA SAGA which is time consuming .

Since French primer Hollande expressed his thank full for our generous orders for 36 and giving more than what they asked . Now he is willing to make some compromise so that Modi face can be saved in India with Make in India initiatives . More over he is also willing to manufacture some parts of current 36 jets in India with private partnership . In a way repaying the favour to our PM .

So what is the twist might be ? Overall it's very positive on more made in India rafale . If by chance if they don't agree for this, then ManPar has different plans in place . Which is to go for another Single Engine Fighters along with Tejas MK1 to completely replace Mig21 fleet under make in India .

So this is what happened till now . Rest all Al speculative without any credible source . Who would let this Cash cow get away ? When all others waiting at Indias door step to grab a pie . French won't leave it . As additional orders means extra money and extra job . Which could be land mark in Hollande political carrier till date.

No need to confuse . DM personally pushing DRDO and HAL to deliver now or to perish ! This is the single been sent . So expect lot of moments on this issue in days to come

Already lots of discussions going on in this thread on this very deal. So far it's been good and things have happened as we speculated . Feel free to join the party guys

Start from last page as it's the thread started when 64 rafale was proposed !!!

I truly hope this becomes a reality. If it's a joint venture, IMO, there will be no offsets to deal with. This can be the next "BRAHMOS" in making.
I don't know why people are crying a river on Rafales being outdated in the next 30 to 40 years. You can always upgrade it. Look at F-16s, it went from generation 3 to gen. 4 to gen. 4+. So the scope will be there.

I'll take this as a really good news, if it happens.

They cry because it's hurts them. I mean Rafale is going to be a huge headache for both the neighbours. Especially the eastern neighbour. Now it's all new ball game to counter it. Rafale has smallest RCS than any thing they have . Or ever will . I don't buy their argument on break thru in 5th gen technology . It's too fat and now recently I read a article stating J20 will now have to sacrifice the range and weapon play load to maintain Stealth and reduce the drag .... DRAG is where the expertise comes in. On other side our western neighbour can jump around on new front line light fighter . But they still don't get a point it's drag is more than Tejas MK1 prototype. Let alone the final one. Rafale will be the best bet in all of Asia .

.
Don't be surprised if Russia help them on their pet project, J-20. Russian are short on cash n China has tones of it.
China's first priority will be to place J-20s on their east coast, south China sea. So India doesn't gave to worry bout them for at least another decade.

. . .
Which private firm? "Reliance"?

It will be one of the most unfortunate developments if that happens.
Initially rumoured as only single entitty Reliance but now appears a consortium comprising of Reliance and Mahindra and other partners. All but speculated as no offcial confirmations

Mahindra name was said by Prasun Sengupta and he also stated asesembly by kits as well as 14 birds a year production rate

Also economic times stated that entire numbers are getting revised and perhaps a much larger deal then MMRCA 126+63 seens to support Make in India eventure and make it lucrative

Beauty and the beast !!! Story of IAF Romantic tango .

When we bought the beauty of the skies ,clean and neat Mirage 2000 , even though our pilots made it their favourite and fallen in love ♡ IAF called Mig29 the Beast . Which had more engine Power very versatile than mirage .

This debate and tango went on for a very long time . Until the time came to mate each other ;) ♥. To test them out on a same bed. And let them roar over the Kargil . The result was very clear and gave birth to this new baby called MMRCA ... Even though the beast Mig29 packed the Punch, delivered the blows right and left while the beauty queen flew like feathers and made more sorties and so crippled enemy's airforce from taking off .A high What a sight when she ruled the skies like a real queen.

The beast never the less did it's job for what it is made for like a hungry lion went for the kill.Typical soviet jets with mean rigid body for large quantity and firepower... But it's operational capabilities was just around 20% . When the queen bee kept stinging PAF with 60-80% and keeping their skies clear like twilight saga movie scene.

After a decade or so the same tango will take place in Asia by that time the result will be even more mind blowing for its masters IAF. As Sukois would have sorted it's issues and with total domination by Rafale . Time will come the The beauty will mesmerise the beast . Once again ;) Tibetian tales will continue ....

The Indian partner, according to these discussions, would not be restricted to state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), potentially opening up the field for private players to step into the lucrative defence and aerospace business. A consortium approach, in which a group of Indian private companies come together with HAL to constitute the Indian ownership, was also being spoken of during these discussions, the sources said, adding that the entire plan was nebulous and could undergo major changes.

NUMBER COULD BE REVISITED

Sources said that while the original requirement of 126 fighters for the air force stands, this number could be revisited in the coming days after a reassessment. A higher number of planes could encourage the French side, which could otherwise have reservations on ceding the controlling stake in the Indian joint venture, to set up a production base for the jets. Such an approach could counter criticism that the new Rafale deal does not give much to India in terms of technology transfer and production capabilities. Going about the remainder of the contract though the joint venture route could give the Indian private sector a chance to partake of the government's defence spending and develop manufacturing expertise in an area that has largely been the preserve of staterun firms.
