ISLAMABAD: A majority of Pakistanis favour the government taking steps for the "Islamisation" of society and almost a third of them believe the process should be completed in one go, according to new survey. A total of 67 per cent replied in the affirmative when they were asked during the survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan whether the government should take steps to "Islamise" the society.

Only 13 per cent said they believed there is no need for "Islamisation" while 20 per cent gave no response.

Forty eight per cent of respondents said steps to Islamise the society "should be taken one by one" while 31 per cent said the "steps should be taken at once". Twenty one per cent gave no response to a question on the process of Islamisation.

The study was carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the affiliate of Gallup International.

The survey was carried out among a sample of 2,738 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of Pakistan during January.

Rights activists and civil society groups have expressed concern over the perceived growth of influence of Islamist and radical groups in recent months.

The police guard who assassinated Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer for opposing the controversial blasphemy law in January was feted by Islamist groups as a hero and hundreds of lawyers offered to represent him for free.

Former federal minister Sherry Rehman virtually stopped making public appearances after being threatened by hardliners for her call for changes in the blasphemy law.

I don't know...but i really fell that these surveys are not credible.... as yesterday INDIA AND PAKISTAN were counted in one of the tightest nations .....how far it is true...????

Pakistan is enough Islamised,we do not need more,
I do not know where these Gallop people go,always results are a bit surprizing.

There is nothing wrong with asking for true Islamic values to play a part in a nations get up, even Jinnah stated:

Islam and its idealism have taught us democracy. Islam has taught Equality, Justice and fairplay to everybody. What reason is there for anyone to fear. Democracy, equality, freedom on the highest sense of integrity and on the basis of fairplay and justice for everyone. Let us make the constitution of Pakistan. We will make it and we will show it to the world

Concentrate on democracy, equality, justice and fairplay as taught by Islam. Understanding of Islam varies from sect to sect and Jinnah belonged to a sect that would advocate for a fair, equal and democratic society.

Some Muslims (read mullahs and their followers) advocate a theocratic state whereby others will not be equals and the state will be led by Mullahs with a divine mission to wage an ever lasting war with kafirs.

Pakistan certainly needs democracy, equality, justice and fairplay, not 'a theocratic state to be ruled by priests with a divine mission'.

yes, now bomb the 180 million terrorist and extremist pakistanis because they love their religion.

I think in Islam there is restricted freedom for women. No education, wear burkha out side home. So women will oppose that.

1.Pakistan was born as a separate nation for subcontinental Muslims. It has an overwhelming Muslim population. It is perfectly normal for the people to seek Islamic jurisprudence. Why should they be ruled by English Common Law left behind by colonial masters? Plato and Aristotle, or Locke and Hobbs, or even Russo and Machiavelli as well as Marx-Engels were of the Western society where they have their own values, culture and tradition.

2. Should Pakistan opt out of Islam - which cannot be defined as a religion merely, then will there be any basis for Pakistan to exist?

over 50000 mosques in karachi alone , and i am sure other cities are no different how much more Islamisation these people want ?

It's not Islam but culture. The founder of Islam on the other hand warned its followers to treat women with respect.

"God enjoins you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, daughters, aunts." (Prophet Muhammad PBUH).

There are still minorities and so a Common Law.

The Sharia is also in vogue.

What exactly is Islamisation that you have in your mind?

Government and bureaucracy all run by Mullahs?

Armed Forces with Mullahs as officers and soldiers?

Pakistan was established for Indian Muslims. Has it changed?

If you feel that nothing can change, then why are you a Bangladeshi? and why are you in Canada?

Life and existence is all about change.

What you are a minute ago is not what you are now.

It is only when you are entombed in concrete will you not change.

No, even then you will change.

Maggot will be eating the corpse!

And your soul not here on earth (or so they say!).

Mujib,

You live in Canada.

Canada is predominantly Christian.

So, how would you like if Christian Laws were applied for you?

No Mosque.

No Ramzan and no prayers five times.

Acceptable by you?

One must temper one's idea by reason and not blind radicalism!

There is a difference between Islamization that Pakistanis want & the contorted Taliban Islamic 'Shariah' Law. The Islamization that most Pakistanis want respects rights for women, minorities, everyone, condemns violent conduct; whereas the Taliban's contorted views do not respect those things.
