Honestly this survey is just a joke to be taken seriously. What does it even mean ASEAN choose US over China?
Will ASEAN countries be hosting US military forces for a military operation against China? Will ASEAN quit BRI & AIIB? Will ASEAN doing fonop with US in the South China Sea?

ASEAN is not UK, AUS or India. They have always known the real superpower of Asia shall return and will accommodate for its arrival. Arrived it has and it has fully embraced it by eagerly joining China's led BRI and AIIB. The non claimant ASEAN members of the SCS did not join US criticizing China, Brunei and Malaysia never raised their voices, Philippines understands its position and Vietnam knows it cannot escalate things with China into a military confrontation where it will get squashed like a bug. News has been circulating from Western Media that China will overtake US in 2027-2028 which is most likely accurate prediction the way how things are going at the moment. More than ever do countries need stronger economic ties with the world's biggest economic entity especially post pandemic. Only UK, Canada, AUS and India think they do not need China so they would rather stick with US. For their sake they better pray that depending on the Americans it can make an economic recovery after severing ties with the biggest market.

The US should play the long games, it had already in it's hand the QUAD surrounding China, continue to engage with ASEAN but just don't expect ASEAN to pick side, they will not do it (on the surface)… continue making goodwill, while steadily eroding Chinese economic influence in ASEAN. ASEAN benefitted from their trade with China while also benefitted from the security that the US has provided since the end of the Pacific war. The US had a true and tested playbook, mainly from it's relationship with many ASEAN military officers, this will come into good use in the coming future, What China did is unsustainable and prone to collapse (like the BRI), China in the coming decades will have a huge problems that it cant contain and will be forced to face, namely an aging population and a contraction of population (will be half the current numbers by the end of the century), while the US stays young and productive. Many reports already suggests that China will likely be old before becoming rich, the debates on butter or bullet will likely intensify once China enters this stage. Even if Beijing surpasses US GDP , it will be re surpassed by the USA before the end of the century. ASEAN will by then naturally chooses and side with the US with an exception on military adventures.
