Army foils infiltration bid in J-K, loses gallant officer
Jammu: Jammu is in mourning for an Indian Army Major who died during an encounter with terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Major Akash Singh of 5th Battalion, Maratha Light Infantry, gave his life foiling an infiltration bid by terrorists in Kashmir's Poonch district.
"It was a very well conducted operation where there was an effort to infiltrate from across wherein this officer single-handedly has been able to eliminate two hardcore militants. Unfortunately we have lost a very gallant officer in this operation," said Brigadier Akhil Dikshit.
Major Akash was heading a patrol near the Sunegali post in Mendhar area when it intercepted the terrorists who were trying to cross into India from Pakistan. Two terrorist were killed in the ensuing encounter but the Major also suffered fatal injuries.
The news of Major Akash's death came as a shock for his family and friends.

Army foils infiltration bid, Major killed
"He was a great human being, full of josh (energy). We have lost a great human being and a fantastic officer," Major Ganesh, a friend of Major Akash, said.
The Army admits that over two dozen infiltration bids have been made in Kashmir since January.
He may have laid down his life for his country, but for Major Akash's wife and two small children, the loss of a husband and father, is irreparable.
R.I.P. ....Its a big loss for his family , nation ...Jai Hind.
