We are woefully lacking in propulsion,weapons and radars.

Only our sonars have been satisfactory

17.INS Nireekshak (A15) (1989)

Type: Dive support ship/Submarine rescue vessel
Displacement: 2,160 tons full load.

Engine & Propulsion: Two diesel engines with 4410 hp sustained, two shafts, cp props,
Dynamic Truster System: Kongsberg ADP-503 Mk.II, two bow thrusters, two stern thrusters with 990 hp.
Maximum Speed: 12 knots.
Complement: 63 (incl. 15 officers).

-Originally built by Mazagon Dock Ltd for ONGC.
-Obtained under lease and later purchased by Indian navy.
-Fitted rescue equipment of INS Nistar,a russian sub recue ship.
-The ship is equipped with two Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles (DSRV), capable of taking 12 men to 300 meters together, with two six-man recompression chambers and one three-man diving bell.

-Used to undertake shallow coastal and deep oceanic hydrographic survey and collect oceanographic and geophysical data required for the production of digital navigational charts and publications.

-can act as troop transports and causality holding ships.

-INS Darshak was used in exploration for lost city of "Poompuhar" in Tamil Nadu coast,and discovered a "U" shaped archaeological structure.
-INS Darshak also recovered a shipwreck of a dutch ship sunk by french in 18th century.
-3 lead ingotts weighing 80 kg each with markings of Dutch East India company and a cannon weighing 700 kg was recovered by divers.

-Senior ship of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy.
-INS Tir,was redirected from a training mission in Lakshadweep to intercept a hijacked Thai fishing trawler used as a pirate mother ship,which attacked the INS Tir and ICGS Samar.
-Cadets in INS Tir returned fire and pirates surrendered,resulting in the capture of 24 pirates and rescue of 28 crew.
