French President Emmanuel Macron has ruled out issuing an official apology for abuses in Algeria, his office said Wednesday, ahead of a major report on how France is facing up to its colonial past in the country.


There will be "no repentance nor apologies" for the occupation of Algeria or the bloody eight-year war that ended French rule, Macron's office said, adding that the French leader would instead take part in "symbolic acts" aimed at promoting reconciliation.
The atrocities committed by both sides during the 1954-1962 Algerian war of independence continue to strain relations between the two countries six decades later.
Macron, the first president born after the colonial period, has gone further than any of his predecessors in recognising French crimes in Algeria.
Later Wednesday, a historian commissioned by the president with assessing "the progress made by France on the memory of the colonisation of Algeria and the Algerian war," will submit his findings.

Benjamin Stora's report is not, however, expected to recommend that France issue an apology but rather suggest ways of shedding light on one of the darker chapters of French history and propose ways of promoting healing.
The presidency said Macron would take part in three days of commemorations next year marking the 60th anniversary of the end of the Algerian war.
Each day will be dedicated to a different group that suffered in the conflict, presidential aides added.

These are same tyrants that played football with the heads of those that resisted their occupation. We haven't forgotten. Nobody is asking all French people submit an apology to Algerians, but its only right that France recognises that it has commited wrongdoing in its past and Macron as the French leader is the only person capable of doing that.

Its not just Algeria either they have commited atrocities across the world from Indochina (Vietnam) to Rwanda, and in each instance have refused to recognise what they have done.

Don't think of this set up as being like WW2 think of WW1. It is not one European nation against other European nations anymore.

Macron isn't a Hitler but if he was the only people who could fight France are the Chinese, Pakistanis, Iranians, Turks, Arabs, Russians, Vietnamese and parts of Africa.
NATO, Japan, South Korea and Australia are all legally bound to France (or the US which is legally bound to France).
Others are, Egypt which seems to be on the side of France. Most of South America is Catholic like the French. Catholics will side with who their Pope tells them.... France. India, India is already almost at war with both China and Pakistan. SE Asia could side with China and Pakistan against NATO.

If it is Islam vs Christianity/Catholics then it is even worse for Muslims because then Christians gain Russia and lose nobody who has ADVANCED weapons or skilled soldiers.

Do you want those guys with the white Roman buildings to do like their ancestor Romans did to Europeans and Greeks? They KILLED ALL THE MEN OF COMBAT AGE SOLD EVERYBODY ELSE INTO SLAVERY. You want the Romans to be like they used to be? That would mean that only by killing ALL the males of combat age, say 8 and up, in the enemy nation is victory achieved.
