LIVER CANCER RATIO DOUBLES IN PAKISTAN

are you talking of Peter C a.k.a. @Hamartia Antidote ? He has mongoloid looking gals in his dp all the time LOL.

One thing I know about liver cells is, it can regenerate itself even when 85% damaged. Everything depends on the sharpness of the physician though and you need an army of them to recover from hepatitis.

I am sorry to hear what your friend had to go through. Hope he is well now.

I don't think it's me (even with the username change). I'm not a doctor and not Chinese (but married to one)

Although I'd lean towards hepatitis as the root cause since liver cancer is not as huge of a problem over here even though people here smoke and drink but hepatitis levels are low.

I have seen the amount of oil floating in muslim non veg dishes. It is virtually drenched in kilos of oil. Even the oil is not light mustard or bran oil. They use animal fat instead. This is bound to happen!
you are trolling right?

In 40 % cases, the cause of hep c transmission is unknown...viruses are also creatures and they also want to get cosy with human beings, thats why one get it...

Am NOt sure if Hepatitis C can be spread by water but mostly doctors say that water is not spreading Hepatitis C[/Q
the strains of hepatitis responsible for liver cancer aren't spread by poor hygiene in general.
they are spread by sexual contact, blood transfusions and needle sharing by infected drug users.

one other cause could be stored grains infected with Aflatoxin- a fungal toxin.

am a doctor. It doesn't spread in the ways you mentioned.
Poor hygiene means in general terms, includes poor practices by health care workers. I am not going to write a story how it happens. It is increasing so it appears that doctors are unable to prevent the spread. I should have elaborated poor practice and lack of care by drug users, health and .... workers? When the immune system is down due poor hygiene it helps pathogens to invade body if a route suitable route is open.

Hygiene does not include only taking showers and cleaning after ....

What can you expect with an unregulated food industry. Bisulphites in food and heavy metals in health foods and vitamins.

LIVER CANCER DEATH RATE BY COUNTRY

According to the above chart Pakistan has a low incidence of Liver cancer.

Some links
Liver cancer statistics | World Cancer Research Fund International

--------------------------------------------------

What are the risk factors for liver cancer?

....

Aflatoxins
These cancer-causing substances are made by a fungus that contaminates peanuts, wheat, soybeans, ground nuts, corn, and rice. Storage in a moist, warm environment can lead to the growth of this fungus. Although this can occur almost anywhere in the world, it is more common in warmer and tropical countries. Developed countries such as the United States and those in Europe regulate the content of aflatoxins in foods through testing.

--------------------------------------------------------

Assuming agriculture hasn't changed drastically in Pakistan; have you been importing food from another country that has a high incidence of Liver Cancer?

For instance:
Contamination of aflatoxins in different kinds of foods in China. - PubMed - NCBI

"AFs were detected in 70.27% of corn samples, with a mean level of 27.44 microg/kg and the highest level of 1098.36 microg/kg. In peanut, the AFs detection rate was 23.08%, with a mean level of 0.82 microg/kg and the highest level of 28.39 microg/kg. Very few rice samples with AFs were detected. The AFs levels were very low in walnut and pine nut"
