Awami League leaders and secular forces in Bangladesh always accuse BNP chairperson
Khaleda Zia as Godmother of all extremists and anti-liberation forces of Bangladesh. Now she just added fuels to the accusation of being Pakistan's ISI agent in Bangladesh. :pakistan:

Speaking at a discussion on Monday, the BNP chief cast doubt about the number of people who gave their lives during the Liberation War, claiming the figure is disputed.

Supreme Court Bar Association’s former general secretary Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi sent a legal notice on Wednesday, which asked her to issue an ‘unconditional apology’ within seven days or face legal consequences.

The notice has been sent to the former prime minister’s residence and her office at the BNP headquarters, Mehedi told bdnews24.com.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia has picked up a new controversy doubting the number of casualties in the country’s Liberation War against Pakistan.

“There is a debate about how many hundreds of thousands were martyred in the Liberation War. Different books and documents give different accounts,” she said.

The officially recognised figure of deaths, confirmed by independent research, is three million. Last November, the Pakistani government had denied its Army’s war-time atrocities in Bangladesh while slamming Bangladesh’s war crimes trials. The BNP chief’s remarks came on Monday when she was addressing members of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Muktijudda Dal, a front organisation of the party.

Ms. Zia also demanded a ‘transparent’ war crimes trial of ‘international standards’.

He is just trolling. Not 3 BILLIONS, 3 MILLIONS.

Don't make fun of the genocide.

Nothing but sheer nonsense first sprouted by the Indian propoganda machine and then readily picked up by the Bangladeshi nationalists who needed to demonize Pakistan in the eyes of the average Bengali in the east. The 3 million figure has been debunked several times not only by Pakistanis but by Indian Oxford historian Sarmita Bose (Letter: Mujib's confusion on Bangladeshi deaths | World news | The Guardian as well as Bengali head of BBC Service Serajur Rahman (Letter: Mujib's confusion on Bangladeshi deaths | World news | The Guardian

Khaleda Zia still believes in Pakistan: Nasim

Health and Family Welfare Minister and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Thursday said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has again proved that she still believes in Pakistan by her heart and soul by raising the question regarding the total number of martyrs in the war of liberation in the month of our victory.

Terming Khaleda Zia a failure politician the Awami League leader said Khaleda Zia has now been suffering from delirium following her defeat in the fields of politics and polls to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Mohammad Nasim came up with the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion arranged by the Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (SCP) at the auditorium of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) at Topkhana Road marking its 22nd founding anniversary.

A defeated politician Khaleda Zia has now been coming up with irrelevant and incoherent remarks against the war of liberation unmasking her falsehood.

"She (Begum Zia) has again proved that she still believes in Pakistan by her heart and soul by raising the question regarding the total number of martyrs in the war of liberation in the month of our victory. She had been defeated to Sheikh Hasina in all the things, in the fields of politics and polls. That's why she has been talking nonsense now," he said.

SCP president Prof Dr Iqbal Arsalan chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by former Health Minister Prof Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, Habib-e-Millat, MP and SCF general secretary Prof Dr Abdul Aziz.

Mohammad Nasim said, "In her remarks, Begum Zia had not only dishonoured the martyrs but she had also drowned her party BNP. People of Bangladesh had been thunderstruck as Begum Zia created a controversy by raising a question on the total figure of martyrs in the war of liberation. She had put her party BNP in the same line that of the party of killers of 1971, Jamaat-e-Islami."

"How she, being the wife of a former sector commander, could come up with such a comment that too in the month of our victory and in front of freedom fighters? The freedom fighters present at the function should have to lodge protest then," he added.

The senior Awami League leader said, "She came up with derogatory remarks on the war of liberation in which millions of people including mothers-sisters, doctors, writers, workers and intellectuals shed their bloods. She passed distasteful and obnoxious comments on their spilled bloods." He said that people of the country would give a befitting reply to her remarks in the ensuing pourasabha (municipal) polls.

Terming Begum Zia's comments on the history of the war of liberation, Awami League, Bangabandhu and the proclamation of independence as blatant lies, Mohammad Nasim said even the Pakistanis did not dare to pass such heinous and obnoxious remarks.

"Begum Zia committed an unpardonable offence by her slanderous comments as she stayed in the camp of Pakistani occupation forces during the war of liberation and owing to her party BNP's long hobnobbing with the party of war criminals, Jamaat," he went on to add.

The figures are not much credible and most probably exaggerated. Unfortunately, I believe that West Pakistan of that time did not treat Bangalis rightly. But please remember that only a few people were involved. I do have reservations with Bangladesh but lets not discuss here.
This legal notice thing is very immature act.

Khaleda Zia should be shown 'red card'

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has played a long innings in politics and stayed 'admirably' on the pitch hitting right and left, straight or square cuts, but scoring not much at the end.
Ever since her debut in politics, stepping into the shoes of her slain husband General Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda rose to a virtually invincible position in her party and commandeered it through several elections including those when she was chosen Prime Minister.
But she has always stayed in the centre of controversies, especially because of her unbridled utterances on national issues, apathy towards public sufferings and above all her indifference to critical situation even when it damaged her own party. Allegation of corruption by Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Zia's notorious "Hawa Bhaban" and their abuse of power are also rampant.
BNP is a party which still has many leaders who had actively participated in the 1971 War of Independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and still respect him as the Father of the Nation, though maybe they cannot say it publicly for fear of Khaleda Zia. The party also has people who still bear the spirit of Liberation War in their hearts.

Khaleda has been known as a friend or sympathiser of Pakistan which we fought and won independence from at the cost of three million lives and honor of tens of thousands of women in 1971. Then, while Khaleda's husband (army Major) Ziaur Rahman was fighting the Pakistani occupation troops alongside other valiant freedom fighters, Khaleda Zia was basking in the comfort of Dhaka Cantonment as guest of Pakistani Generals. She stayed there for the whole nine months since the war began in March 1971 until the Pakistani army surrendered on December 16, 1971.

The independence was won and like others who survived the war Khaleda also came out in the open.
But she probably did not come out with an open mind. She was totally unaware of happenings in the war field but apparently saddened by the defeat of Pakistan army and division of her loved country.

It was naturally expected that Khaleda Zia, as she integrated herself in BNP's politics trying to fill the vacuum caused by Ziaur Rahman's assassination in an abortive coup in 1981, would change and contribute to the rebuilding of Bangladesh ravaged by the war in 1971.
But over the last 44 years till now she hasn't changed much, except for her crave for power and so she got herself embroiled in one after another controversy. She found a natural ally of BNP and herself in the Jamaat-e-Islami and its leaders who had opposed independence of Bangladesh and helped the Pakistani occupation army in carrying out one of world's worst genocides in what is now Bangladesh.

During her premiership, Khaleda Zia rewarded Jamaat by appointing two of its most notorious leaders and enemies of Bangladesh as ministers and allowing them to exercise sweeping power. She let them to fly national flags in their cars that caused immense pain to those who had suffered in hands of the Jamaatis who not only killed countless Bengali people during and before the war but also gifted Bengali women to the Pakistan occupation army.
While the sad memories were still haunting the survivors of the 1971 war, Khaleda, as leader of the BNP and former Prime Minister, distanced herself from the mainstream emotional and national occasions in Bangladesh. She stopped visiting the Shaheed Minar (Language Martyrs' Memorial in the capital) and the National Memorial for the war dead at Savar. Such anti-state attitudes brought Khaleda Zia loads of indignation and disrespect as a politician and as a former premier. But she remained undaunted by public criticism - living up to her ill-gotten reputation as 'uncompromising' leader.
Despite calls from many Khaleda Zia has been celebrating her controversial 'birthday' on August 15 when the entire nation observes 'Mourning Day' to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was killed by some derailed army officer in 1975.
Khaleda caused her own party to bleed through boycott of parliamentary elections held in January 2014 to satisfy her ego and implement a formula apparently devised by Jamaat and her self-exiled son Tarique Rahman, who has been sought by law for corruption and abuse of power. Khaleda remained firm in her stance while BNP as a political party continued to crumble.
Khaleda would oppose anything the incumbent government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would initiate or propose for the good of the people and the country. Instead, Khaleda made relentless efforts, often through her insolent exiled son, to distort the history of our Liberation War, defame our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to blacken the image of Bangladesh as an emerging developing country.
She let BNP and Jamaati militants to kill people in the name of politics, burn properties, disrupt transport and attack vehicles with petrol bombs killing innocent people and do whatever that would amount to anarchy to scare away Bangladesh's business partners and investors. BNP launched its 'killing mission' before the 2014 national polls and still pursues the same course.
Often Khaleda blames the government and law enforcing agencies for purported atrocity against political rivals but herself skips attending courts for her corruption hearings.
While people refuse to forget BNP's 'misdeeds' and Khaleda's 'tainted' past, she very recently pulled herself into fresh focus by trying to save war criminals, hanged by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh. Khaleda failed to make any protest when Pakistan government protested the execution of two War Criminals Ali Ahsan Moammad Mojaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury on November 22.
It is alleged that Khaleda Zia in her long political career has served interests of Pakistan more than she did for Bangladesh - and never felt quite at ease with Bangladesh's political traditions and trends. She likes to confine herself in her party office turned home in Dhaka's Gulshan area, to invite foreign diplomats to complain about domestic issues that otherwise should have been addressed politically in conjunction with the ruling party and spread all sorts of slander and falsehood about Bangladesh.
She has kept senior party leaders under a 'threshold' created by her son and thus earned plenty of dislike which is still pulsating beneath the ground but may explode anytime.
Meanwhile, people like to tread back to Kahleda's life in early years of her premiership. She sent a condolence letter after former Pakistan Army Chief General Janjua died. But it was beyond protocol of a Prime Minister (who is also in charge of Defence Ministry). Janjua was in Dhaka in 1971 when Khaleda stayed inside the cantonment during the War of Liberation.
In the long process of Khaleda being BNP chief, the party has suffered many dents and faced endless bumps that many BNP insiders say need to end now. While this is the situation, Khaleda unleashed yet another bombshell, this time she raised 'doubt' about the number of people 'martyred' during the Liberation War.
The remark made at a meeting of pro-BNP freedom fighters on Monday, sent a wave of hatred and disgust across the nation and angered freedom fighters including those from the BNP.
The future of BNP depends largely on how Khaleda would like to see herself in the coming years. If she stays in politics she would need to remodel herself thoroughly and let young leaders come up - which many say is unlikely. In that case, many say, maybe now is time for Khaleda Zia to be shown 'red card' as a politician.

Khaleda Zia should be shown 'red card'

From the book world population 1977, United States Bureau of the Census Population we can see that BD population growth reduced atleast 0.5% during 1971. That leaves a clue of people's death.

1st source buster: Russia was acting as d@ dd y of india and grand d@ dd y of mutkia terrorists so obviously their media was spitting venom against Pakistan. Also Pakistan was standing against Russia in the cold war.

2nd source buster: Again these sources the book is citing are non neutral. Secondly I can only see lowest figure of 9800 dead and highest figure of 12000dead. Your own beloved leader of terrorist movement mujib mutkia claimed 30000 dead when he was in Pakistan, on the second day in London he claimed 300000 dead and on third day in Bangladesh he claimed 3Million. I mean like wtf, is he a leader or twister?

3rd source buster: Bangladesh population grew 69,727 to 71,556 in 1970, and from 71,556 to 73,075 in 1971. Which is 0.5%down. Now you forget to remember that most pro Pakistan civilians fled in 1971 to Pakistan whereas many males in Bdsh joined mutkia terrorist groups giving them no time to sleep with their wives but someone else in India.

Don't tell me that you really think 3 million figure is correct other wise it means that even after on going war Bangladeshis were manage to increase their population from 71,556 to 76,075 that's friggin 4.5 million people increament(adding 3 million dead). Compare it with 1970 the increase was 1.8 million and from 1972/73 the increase was 1.9 million only?

Pakistanis committing genocide and rape in Bangladesh and that too by their own military and with government sanction is bad enough...but now some of you have found a way to make that atrocity even worse by making fun of that atrocity. Shame and honor has left Pakistanis who do that.

Irony , her party is named Bangladesh National Party. should change it to Pakistan national party.
Atrocity by whatever numbers is still an atrocity. How much difference does it make ?

According to pakistanis , kashmir is 1 million but bangladesh is 10 ppl statistics to suit their own interests. I dont understand how bangladeshis tolerate ppl like Khaleda, she should go where she shows her loyalty. If some small fry like jamaati's behave like that it is expected but not from top run leaders that too prime minister.

she needs to be shown some :butcher: so that she is grateful to the land that feeds her.

BNP seems to talk logic and make sense but the mutkia terrorist party feeding Bangladeshis with illogical stupidity of 3 million. Only r3t@r3t@Rd like them can accept these numbers.

Whoever will speak the truth in Bd today, will be punished.
