‘Leaked’ itinerary could put Imran Khan’s life at risk

ISLAMABAD: The security code of conduct to protect the life of Prime Minister Imran Khan was breached when a notification of his upcoming day’s schedule was made public on the social media.

A notification titled ‘Prime Minister’s Tentative Programme’ for September 16 (Sunday), 2018, was leaked to the media which unveiled all the activities, meetings and engagements of the government’s senior-most leader.

Moreover, the letter also noted how the premier had planned to reach his destinations, either by helicopter or road.

PM Khan’s schedule included his departure and arrival in Karachi, meetings with Sindh chief minister and governor, visit to the Mazar-e-Quaid and other public places. The premier was also scheduled to speak on the phone with ARY CEO Salman Iqbal and participate in a fundraising dinner, according to the letter.

The entire day’s plan of the one-day visit to Karachi and the return to Islamabad was written on a piece of paper which should be treated as a security breach as making such sensitive information public could risk the life of the premier.

Strict security codes are usually practiced for the protection of prime minister while recent threats to PM Khan call for extraordinary measures.

In August, it was reported that at least nine suspected terrorists were held by security agencies from the adjoining areas of Bani Gala, before and after the July 25 polls.

According to reports, the terrorists, who had reached the federal capital from Afghanistan, had planned to target the newly-elected prime minister, as well as other major political players.

Sheltering in a safe house in the suburban areas of Islamabad, the terrorists were in continuous contact with their network in Afghanistan until they were arrested in separate raids carried out by security agencies.

Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession.

In view of the threats, all potential targets, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, were informed and their security detail was enhanced.

It was amid these threats that PM Khan announced residing at the military secretary’s annex located in the Prime Minister House colony.

I said at the outset. PM IK is under clear and present danger. He is going against the established order which has deep roots after nearly 30 years of no accountability. The dangers are from within and without the government and from outside Pakistan. All that is required is these vested interests to get together and we could have a deadly situation.

I think his personal security should taken over by COAS. A team from his security detail with a officer of at least brigadier should be in charge all of course dressed in civies. His convoy should have at least one vehicle carrying a squad of SSG in case it comes under sustained attack or ambush.

I agree. I actually now think this whole austerity thing has gone too far. I know he is doing it to set a example and as a inspiration for rest of his government but even then I think the whole thing has taken a silly turn.

The question what is PM IK worth to Pakistan. Millions voted form him. I think couple of million dollars on proper security for a PM is enough. It is justified. If a helicopter is needed take the darn thing. It's all about productivity. A heli saves time and as PM he is needed to get things done. He is running a country of 200 million for gawds sakes. I am not saying he should have 99 cars or 999 servants but there ought to balance.

In fact I am now against PM house being converted to university. We should keep in my mind it is already built. How about reduce the number of servants and bring in more staff from line departments who they are near him. PM House should a institution. When world leaders come PMH should be the face of Pakistan. Just like White House, 10 Downing Street, Elyse Palace and Kremlin are for USA, UK. France and Russia.

And let alone the opposition even PTI supporters would criticize him fif he takes a step back from whatever he said in his last few speeches. He is already called mr. “U-turn”. I honestly do like the idea of converting PM house into a university.
Pakistan is in time period of real struggle so no point of acting like all the first world countries.
