According to a survey conducted by Hindustan Times, more than 80% of those surveyed have expressed their apprehensions about India’s defense security. They believe that the incident has hurt India’s defense security. The accident on board Russian-built INS Sindhuratna, one in many has forced the Naval Chief to quit in embarrassment. In the meantime, questions are being raised about the force level as the underwater fleet is fast approaching its depletion.

Coupled with delay in Scorpenes program, French submarines to be built under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement, India would lose its sub-sea superiority against Pakistan over the next two years. Already far behind China in terms of strength of under-water fleet, defense analysts have reasons to believe that India has serious issues at hand as far as their naval capabilities are concerned.

According to Hindustan Times, the Indian Navy currently operates 12 submarines. However, the “viable strength” of India’s submarine arm is much less, factoring in the operational availability of the boats. According to Indian experts, the force will be left with merely five to six submarines, by 2015 as it begins phasing out the Russian Kilo-class and German HDW Type 209 submarines.

Frankly if this thread was posted by an Indian i would not have taken umbrage to it.

Lose superiority. Whta a Joke. With 6 new subs rolling off the lines, 1 nuke sub, 1 nuke to be inducted, 1 to be launched, 2 being built, more being refirbuished, all I see is media hype.

Pakistan has 5 rustbuckets.

Loss of superiority. INdeed. :woot:
