Hardly, OFB is still around for the same reasons HAL is still around or any other DPSU (or PSU at that)- the outdated mindset of successive governments who have allowed public entities to grow ineffective and unresponsive to the changing times.

F-INSAS will certainly make the IA network centric (this is being pursued very very aggressively by the IA) and I am hoping it will come with a serious upgrade of the personal kit for frontline troops.

And reason for the decisions of those governments??

The GoI doesn't have to disband them, simply promote efficiency and open them up to the private sector to bring in industry best practices.

I'm pretty sure it's going to happen, it's either going to be perform or perish now (the GoI has already started closing failing PSUs)

Then it has to be privatised with gradual disinvestment.
There is no other way,otherwise ofb will consume even BAE systems

I still don't think so bro, it is down to which units take part in these exercises. So clearly the modernisation efforts have reached theunits taking part in these Hand-Hand exercises (and the joint Indo-Russian ones) but not the Mountain brigades of the IA who took part in Oudh Abhays.

It makes little sense for the IA to purposely downplay their (limited) modernisation efforts specifically against the US army.



I really dislike those helmets though- still look like they are something out of the 1950s.

those knee pads, elbo pads are not standard issued for our army. in 2012 US ask Indian army to use modern equipment in YA2012

You are right they are not standard issue but are becoming increasingly used first by SF, then by Ghataks and so on. If what you say is true about Oudh Abhays 2012 then what happened during the same exercise in 2014 where the IA was pathetically under equipped?

i don'r know what happened in 2014. but i do remember about the YA2012. look at indo china, indo russia excercise they are equipped better than in YA2014

Like I keep telling you bro, this is down to the different units taking part in all such exercises. The IA is MASSIVE, not all units will be at the same level at the same time, some will receive newer kit sooner than others. So the equipment you see worn/carried by the Indian soldiers in these joint exercises with foreign militaries depends on the IA unit taking part. There is not some wider conspiracy/plan at work here.

Depends on the unit which participates in the exercise.

The IA units from YA 2012 were from the Mechanized Infantry while the units from last years hand in hand exercise were from the Sikh Regiment. Those regiments are simply better equipped than more "regular" ones.
