The latest generation of Russian main battle tanks, commonly known as T-14 Armata or NATO killer supertank, will receive toilets to make it easier for troops to take care of business in the field.

The designers behind the Armata system have now added a toilet, allowing troops to tend to their bodily needs without exposing themselves during battle, according to Director for Quality and Information Technologies at the Urals Design Bureau of Transport Machine-Building Ilya Baranov.

The continuous stay inside an armored vehicle is a specific feature that tank crews cope with, he noted.

“A major hassle for them is that they cannot relieve their natural functions. That is, water and field rations are available in the tank, but all the other conveniences are, unfortunately, absent. Only the Armata vehicles solved this dilemma,” Baranov stressed.

He noted that “from the very outset, this tank provides this possibility for a crew to perform lengthy combat missions, that is why the so-called life support system or, simply speaking, a lavatory, is available in it.”

Russian officials said that new T-14 Armata is a third-generation main battle tank based on the universal combat platform.

The Armata tank was designed over the course of 8 years and features a number of innovative characteristics, including an unmanned turret. The crew of three is seated in an armoured capsule in the front of the hull.

According to Russian sources, T-14 is a future face of Russia’s military power.
