CM gives nod to underpass from Babu Sabu to Ring Road Gulshan-e-Ravi


Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has approved the construction of an underpass from Babu Sabu interchange to Ring Road, Gulshan-e-Ravi T-Junction, a news source reported on December 13.

CM Elahi chaired a meeting of the governing body of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Monday (December 12). The minister agreed to give all housing schemes’ records, falling under the Ravi Development Authority (RUDA) areas, to the RUDA. It was also mentioned that the approved, pending, and illegal housing schemes’ records will be transferred to the authority.

During the meeting, the CM approved projects on 152 kanals of land, opposite the IT Tower on Ferozepur Road. The details revealed an IT Tower on 24 kanals, four commercial buildings, and a hospital on 59 kanals of land will be built. It was stated that parking facilities will be ensured in the new projects.

Moreover, the meeting to form the committee and sub-committee to deal with the affairs of the LDA. The amendments in the Land Use Regulation 2020 and building and zoning regulations were approved in the meeting. CM Elahi stated that safety and security and other rules and regulations must be kept in mind. He went on to say that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the neighbours before allowing the construction of apartments and 50% green area must be reserved on the roof.

The news source disclosed that in principle approval was given for the construction and expansion of the Dubanpura exit road along with the construction and extension of the LDA City link road from Ferozepur Road to Kahna Kacha. The minister also approved the construction of a link road to connect LDA City to Defense Road to the Hudiara Drain Bridge.

The Lahore Orange Line Train completed the two years of its operation on Tuesday. Up to 50 million passengers have travelled on the train since the commercial launch of the project on Oct 25, 2020.

The company responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project organised a ceremony here on Tuesday, which was attended by the counsel general of ina in Lahore, Chinese engineers, Pakistani staff, senior officials of the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) and others.

A representative of the Orange Line Metro Train said the train has cumulatively travelled 25 million kilometres, completing 200,000 trips with 99.99 per cent punctuality. The company achieved 97 per cent of staff localization and 50 million ridership.

A senior official of the PMA said up to 20 million passengers used the facility from Oct 25, 2020 and Oct 25, 2021. But during Oct 25, 2021 to Oct 25, 2022, the number of passengers increased to 30 million, which shows passengers are switching to the metro train system due to increasing oil prices. Films about the project were screened at the ceremony, and awards were given to outstanding staffers.

The hi-tech trains operate daily from 6am to 10pm every five minutes from Ali Town to Dera Gujran through 26 stations....

LDA Master Plan 2050: Gulberg to get new sewage system

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore has decided to lay a new sewage system in Gulberg under the LDA Master Plan 2050, news sources reported on February 2.

Under the said LDA Master Plan, WASA will replace sewerage lines in the Main Market, Mini Market, Center Point, Ghalib Market, Gaddafi Stadium and Firdous Market areas of Gulberg, Lahore. The authority has estimated PKR 4.75 billion as the total cost of the project, which will also include the construction of a temporary wastewater processing facility near Kalma Chowk.

The permanent water treatment plant, however, will be built near Ring Road on WASA-owned 237 kanal land. The permanent water treatment facility will process 2,000 cusecs of grey water daily. As per the sources, the WASA has decided to take the initiative to increase capacity keeping in mind the ongoing surge in vertical buildings and the Central Business District (CBD) Downtown project. Once completed, the project will be sufficient till 2050.

It is pertinent to mention that Gulberg is one of the most populated and high-density areas of Lahore with many high-rise projects. It is also home to the Punjab government’s flagship Central Business District project – which is the country’s first sustainable residential and commercial area.

Anti-encroachment drive: LDA seals seven banks, other premises

LAHORE: To make nine major roads encroachment-free, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Monday launched a mega operation in Johar Town and sealed several premises, including seven branches of commercial banks.

According to officials, the LDA teams, along with the police, sealed four restaurants, and 20 food points on Abdul Haq Road (Johar Town’s G-1 market road).

Also, 60 premises, including shops and buildings, were sealed for creating encroachments that caused traffic congestion and public inconvenience.

The teams also dismantled extended shades and floors besides confiscating other moveable items such as chairs, tables, boards, and tents.

LDA Director General (DG) Amir Ali Ahmad told the court that the authority is taking initiatives to enhance the city’s environment, including improving the major boulevards in Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town. In addition, he promised to plant five trees for each lost due to construction.

It is important to note that the LDA has chosen nine city roads to redesign as model roads with less congestion. The following is a list of these nine roads:

Automate the parking system in Lahore.

Punjab government secretary, Dr. Irshad Ahmed, has instructed Lahore Parking Company officers to automate the parking system in Lahore.
He also directed the department to use CCTV cameras to properly monitor the parking lots.
On Tuesday, Ahmed presided over a meeting of the Lahore and Faisalabad Parking Company at the Punjab Civil Secretariat.
He advised the Lahore Parking Company to tighten its monitoring system and ensure thorough fee collection
