Korea offers assistance to build new shipyards at Karachi, Gwadar

ISLAMABAD – While showing keen interest in second shipyard being built in Pakistan, Korea has offered assistance to build the new shipyards at Karachi and Gwadar.

This offer was made to the Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain during his visit to Korea. The minister, who is visiting on invitation of Minister for Defence of Korea Gen (retired) Kim Tae Young, was received warmly by Korean authorities.

Pakistan has appreciated their desire and has asked the Korean authorities to look into it favourably. Besides, Korea showed interest in the ammunition, shipping and aircraft industries and offered further avenues of collaboration.

During the visit, Korean Defence Minister held key meeting with Rana Tanvir Hussain in which he thanked Pakistan for always standing by Korea since 1950's, when it was faced with the wars. Korea, he said is ready to cooperate with Pakistan in all the fields of defence production.

He commended the recent stride in the defence industry of Pakistan and expressed hope for larger and greater avenues of joint collaboration. Pakistani delegation also appraised the Korean authorities of the new B-7 level APCs being indigenously built in Pakistan.

"We have by the Grace of Allah Almighty been able to develop one of the best B-7 Protection Vehicle" the minister said. He also said that the strides in communication systems by Pakistan is significant, however if Korea and Pakistan can further collaborate, it will emerge as one of the best Radio Telecom System.

The minister then held meetings with the Services Chiefs in Korea, Vice Defence Minister Korea, Lee Young Geol. A dinner in honour of the minister was hosted by Korean defence minister which he graciously accepted.

The visit is termed as most successful by Korean and Pakistani authorities. Pakistani delegation consisted Additional Secretary, Maj Gen Raza Muhammad, and Joint Secretary Air Commodore Farrukh Bashir Defence Attache in Korea from the Ministry of Defence Production.

Pakistan should take this Koreans are the best in this field

South Korea or North Korea?

I think better for the Koreans to offer JV with Commercial and Military Electrical-Electronics and in Mechanical-Chemical sector.

For ship yard building they should welcome local investors to invest with GoP in a 50-50 partnership.
