Kolkata boycotts popular band “Miles” Concert

Miles had been deducted from the concert which will be arranged on the occasion of India’s Independence Day. But why? Two members Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed’s incessant facebook status and comment, in opposition of India. Sometimes they commented, “India is the rape capital of the world.”Shafin’s post, “I have no word to express my irritation. Rape capital of the world getting sicker by the day!” He also added, “Bangladesh needs to become careful. It requires to impose strict security system on checkpoint.”

It is major reason of the boycott.

Indian singer Rupom Islam (the lead singer of band Fossils) cannot tolerate this type of comment against his country. He clearly said, “we all are fan of Miles. But the time when they told these, we don’t like them. They always miscalls India. How they dream to perform in India. We will not share stage with them. If they perform, we’ll not.

The viewers also don’t want to see their performance -he added. The concert will be held at 13th August. It is still pending either Miles will perform or not. It is to be noted that, a radio station of Kolkata is the organizer of the concert.

Concert cancelled after Bangladeshi rock band faces boycott call

Alleged “anti-India” comments in social media by Bangladeshi rock band Miles have sparked an online protest here, leading to a cancellation of a concert planned on August 13.

Kolkata-based rock band Fossils refused to share the dais with Miles at a proposed concert.

The issue snowballed when an online forum of music enthusiasts posted screenshots of social media posts where the members of Miles purportedly made anti-India comments. The forum also started an online campaign titled ‘Boycott Miles’ and urged people not to attend the Azadi Festival, scheduled on August 13.

The members of Miles, however, denied the allegation and in turn accused Fossils of launching a “hate campaign.” In a video posted on their social media page, Shafin Ahmed, one of the band’s vocalists, said the posts were not “anti-India but were made in the spirit of patriotism.”

“With regard to the Azadi concert we have noticed that a band along with some of their fans have started a smear campaign against us. We have also come to know that they are indulging in a hate campaign,” Mr. Ahmed said. As for the alleged “anti-India comments,” he said that as citizens of Bangladesh they had the right to express their views on issues affecting their country and it should not be dubbed as “anti-India.”

Fossils’ lead singer Rupam Islam said his band decided not to share the dais with Miles after a section of music lovers in the city informed them about the “abusive remarks against India made by Miles” on social media. “They [the music lovers] asked us whether we want to share the dais with such a band which has been making offensive remarks against our country,” Mr. Islam said.

Shafin Ahmed, vocal of iconic Bangla rock band Miles, has taken to social media to clarify their stand over the cancelation of an Indian concert to be held in Kolkata.

Whatever they posted on their personal Facebook accounts cannot be termed as anti-Indian sentiments, said Shafin, these were said from a stand of patriotism.

On their official Facebook page, Miles posted a video of Shafin and Manam Ahmed at 1:02am on Thursday.

Shafin and Manam, in the video, denied anti-India allegations and protested against the exclusion of their concert, depriving their fans in Kolkata.

“Open up your minds; keep the music arena open. And only then, we can work together and be united,” said Shafin in the video.


A campaign on Facebook, led by Kolkota-based rock band Fossils, ran in India claiming that Miles members, Shafin and his brother Hamim Ahmed, have frequently made ‘anti-India remarks’.

It is also reported that Fossils threatened to boycott the Azadi Concert if Miles perform in it.

Shafin said in the video, “We have come across the hate campaign against us run by an Indian band over the Azadi Concert. As conscious citizens, we have the right to speak against the issues that may harm Bangladesh.”


“I think none should merge this with cultural programmes. We did not expect them to cancel the Miles concert and launching a hate campaign, especially by a band [Fossils] whom we know for a long time,” he added.


The popular singer also said that they welcome Indian artistes whenever they come and perform in Bangladesh.

“Time has come to practice music jointly, crossing the borders. We have a fan base in Kolkata. This incident has deprived our Kolkata fans,” said Shafin.

not sure what miles is.. but junoon has performed in India... the organizers did the right thing... if you hate India so much you are not welcome. There is no need to go to a country you hate just for a few bucks...

the band's bd fans should be asking how can somebody sell themselves for a few quid.. am guessing they got enough fan base to make a decent living...

if an Indian had said something similar(like bangladeshis should be shot at sight on border, these people are like cockroaches).. we will be seeing beheading memes all over facebook.. bd fans can be as silly as Indians.. of not more..

bs.. bd get the maximum number of Indian tourist visa of any country... except assam where even north Indians face hostility, all other states are safe for bd ppl.. also even with all this illegals coming and huge politics around it, you wont see any bdian beaten up or abused... dont tell me bd does not have people who hate India as much... as percentage I would say its much more than Indians hating bd..

The GoI should immediately complete the comprehensive fencing of the Indo-Bangla border. People here are really miffed with the infiltration issue. We need to secure our borders immediately. And why the hell are we entertaining these bands and artists from across the borders!?

Its true mate that the bdeshis are actually a bit delusional. They think of themselves very highly. I have heard some of their bragging myself BD students in my school (one was a son of a Dhaka politician), this guy used to be embarrassed everyday since another friend of his used to make such tall claims about Bangladesh and Bangladeshis which anyone could make out were utter lies. This I am speaking of 2005-06. I still remember this very same guy brought a Royal Enfield 350 cc here and then he used to make it a point to speak utter nonsense every single day like how Bdeshis were used to really high quality products and that none of the Indian products were as satisfactory as those available in BD in the context of the RF 350. Just imagine!!! I still remember that even after so much trash talking he used everything Indian even the four wheeler which was a WagonR. Later his friend explained one day after this guy became a laughing stock that it was just a way to hide his inferiority complex and he asked us not to take him seriously. Now a days they are crossing over to this side even for simple blood tests and shut. I seriously hope the GoI look into the matter and complete the fencing at the earliest.
