LAHORE - Government of the Punjab and University of Strathclyde, Glasgow has reached to an agreement under which University of Strathclyde will establish its campus in Knowledge Park Lahore. A ceremony in this regard was held prior to the technical session on the second day of ongoing International Conference on Higher Education Global Policy Dialogue & Knowledge Parks, here today. Secretary Higher Education Punjab Abdullah Khan Sumbal and Executive Dean University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Dr. Anthony McGrew signed on the agreement in the presence of Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan. Provincial Parliamentary Secretary on Higher Education Ms. Mehvish Sultana and British Council’s Director Education for South Asia Ms. Michelle Potts were also present,
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan while talking to media on the occasion, termed the establishment of University of Strathclyde in Lahore a great breakthrough for the youth of Punjab as this university has been declared World’s No. 1 university. The Minister reiterated his resolve to regain the lost glory of Pakistan in the comity of nations through excelling in higher education and claimed that the world community has shown confidence in the educational roadmap envisioned by the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Five more world class mega universities will enter into agreements with the Government of the Punjab a day later on May 09, 2014 to make linkage with the higher education department Punjab through giving their consent to establish their campuses at knowledge park Lahore, the Minister added.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan while addressing the technical session of International Conference on Higher Education Global Policy Dialogue & Knowledge Parks said that the population of the province of Punjab exceeds from 100 million out of which the proportion of youth becomes 68% which is the largest Youth bulge in the region. More than 10.1 million students are studying in public sector schools while 10.05 million students are studying in the private sector schools in Punjab out of which 1.4 million students are funded by the Punjab Government through issuance of education vouchers by Punjab Education Foundation.
More than half a million teachers work in 54000 public sector schools in the province and it is a matter of pride for us that due to successful implementation of Punjab Education Sector Reforms Roadmap, the teachers attendance rate in Punjab has risen to 93% while the students attendance rate is 94% which is even better than that of the schools in Yorkshire, UK.
The Minister disclosed that 5 more mega universities will ink MoUs with the government of the Punjab on a day after tomorrow for establishing their campuses in Lahore Knowledge Park which includes an American university famous for its research work in liver and kidney diseases. These MoUs will open the doors of world class education opportunities for the youth of Punjab in their homeland, the Minister concluded.
Later, Country Director British Council Pakistan Peter Upton presented his keynote address in the technical session of the Global Education Policy Dialogue while vice chancellor Fatima Jinnah University Rawalpindi Prof. Samina Amin Qadir, VC Asian Women University Bangladesh Dr. Fahima Aziz, Director Education Leads Consulting Malaysia Prof. Jasbir Kaur, Director Research British Council Pakistan Dr. Maryum Rab made their deliberations regarding the role of women in promoting research culture in Pakistan, Research Networks, Talent Management and The Quest for International Relevance. Chairman University Grants Commission Sri Lanka Prof. Kshanika Hirimvuregama, Prof of Ambedkar University Dehli, India, Deepti Sachdev, the founder, Sterling IP, UK Mr. Berni Hambleton and Director Internationalization, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Ms. Jill Farrell spoke on the new aspects of intellectual property rights. It was decided to constitute a working group to finalize the recommendations of the conference which will be put before the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on the concluding day of the conference on May 09, 2014

Knowledge Park to have Glasgow university campus
 
University of Strathclyde isn't a top 100 league university (Ranked 250+ in 2013) but still far better than the what we have. And of course as I said before, most of the Pakistanis can't afford top 100 unless offered full scholarships
