If my little understanding of this text is correct then the local media is claiming that three youngsters boarded the train which the Muslim family was traveling too and one of the boys slapped the son of the Muslim man to make way in the gallery and when the elder brother of the Muslim boy protested slapping of his younger brother the attacking boy got furious and his fellows started getting physical. The boys called fellows on mobile phone who came with sticks in large numbers . The head of the Muslim family shakir out of fear locked window from inside but the attacking boys entered the bogie and beaten the family badly.

Means they were dealing with some residential criminals in that area .
And now what would be the medias or liberals response if thrashing was against Hindus upper castes?
If it was Dalit then surely it would be in media more vigorously.

According to the report, the incident took place on the Shikohabad-Kasganj passenger train when the family was on its way back from attending a marriage ceremony. The family was attacked by a mob of 30-35 people who broke down the emergency window of the train and also reportedly hurled abuses at them and screamed 'Kill them. They are Muslims.'

The family have also alleged the mob of groping the women, tearing their blouses and salwars and snatching their jewelry.

An FIR has been lodged under IPC section 395 and based on the video of the incident, special operation group and other police teams have detained three men and are questioning them, the report adds.

The incident comes in the wake of growing intolerance and violence towards the Muslim community, amidst the intensified approach by the central government to ban cow slaughter in the country.

In a separate incident, a man was thrashed by locals in Nagpur's Bharsingi area on suspicion of carrying beef on Wednesday. The man was later identified as a BJP worker who claimed that the meat he carried was mutton and not beef. The meat sample has reportedly been sent for forensic analysis.

The attack comes barely two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned violence in the name of cow protection.

"Killing people in the name of 'Gau Bhakti' is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve," PM Modi had said during his speech to mark the centenary of the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on June 29.

The son of the family was standing in the aisle. Three thugs entered the bogie. Slapped the back of the head of the boy to move him aside. Elder brother and sister of the boy protested. The thugs called ahead to their village thugs on their mobiles. And got off at the next station and on to an adjoining train. A little ahead if their village the train was stopped by pulling the chain. Meanwhile the scared family had barricaded the windows and doors of the bogie from inside. A large group of thugs armed with sticks and iron rods broke through the emergency exit and got inside. And thrashed the family. Including women, elders, and a handicapped boy.

No one was killed.

Precisely. The point is this culture of impunity. Where does this arise from? This is more than an issue of the identity of the victims. It is an issue of law and order breakdown.

It stands to reason that in such an environment, minorities and other vulnerable communities will be more frequently targeted. I suggest that anyone who cannot organize a gang of their own is vulnerable in this scenario.

In the current environment of polarization, what is going to happen is that some BJP fan is going to turn up and cite some Twitter research as to how law and order has improved since 2014, and we are back to square one.

How long will it take for us to realize that the victimization of people by mobs is not something to play politics over? The government has to take responsibility, perpetrators need to be prosecuted, and the relevant public officials need to resign. And after a reasonable time, if it turns out that no one has been convicted, then the state government has to take responsibility and resign.

I don't see any other way this thing is getting reversed.
