Kidnapped Pakistan judges rescued by security forces
Security forces in Pakistan have rescued two judges who were kidnapped in the south-western province of Balochistan last month, officials say.

Jan Mohammad Gohar and Mohammad Ali Kakar were rescued after police got information as to their whereabouts from suspects already in custody.

The men were reported to be in good health after their nine-day ordeal.

Their abduction prompted protests by lawyers in Balochistan who said the police had not taken enough action.

The two men went missing while driving from the district of Sibi to Osta Mohammad town to attend a wedding.

On Monday night, security forces recovered the men from a house in the village of Shori in Jafferabad, local administration deputy head Fateh Mohammad Khajek told the BBC.

Witnesses say the kidnappers fled the house where the judges were being held before the police raided.

Officials say about 50 suspects have been rounded up and interrogated by police since the kidnappings.

Last week lawyers protested for days, saying the authorities had not taken enough action to prevent a series of abductions.

They blamed "terrorist groups" for the kidnappings, arguing that targeting the judiciary makes the province more unstable.

Hundreds of local citizens, including doctors, lawyers and political activists have disappeared in the province. Their bodies are often later found in shallow graves.

Security agencies say they have been kidnapped and killed by insurgent groups. But human rights organisations are increasingly holding intelligence agencies and paramilitary forces responsible.
